TAIYUAN | Public Transport

Taiyuan Metro is a planned metro system in the capital city of Shanxi Province, China.

The first Line 2 is planned to open on 2016.

The master plan has 7 lines with a total network size of 235.7 km.

Shanxi's first subway project gets regulatory approval

BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) – Regulators have approved the feasibility report for the first subway project to be constructed in North China's Shanxi province, according to the provincial transport authority.

With a length of 24.86 km, the proposed subway line in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi, is expected to go into service in about five years.

According to its long-term plan, the provincial capital is to build up an urban rail network comprising 7 lines, with a total length of 233.6 km.

Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, not to be confused with Taoyuan in Taiwan or Xi'an which is the capital of neighboring Shaanxi province. So it seems they are actually aiming to open the metro this year, most sources I know (including Baike Baidu!) have it for 2020. Of course I could be wrong.
