I think that the routes weren't chosen properly. I think that destinations such as Belgrad, Tallinn should be combined at least with another destination each. For me it wasn't a surprise that they've stopped them. I think that Belgrad could be combined with Sofia and Talliinn with Riga or Vilnius. Adding Belgrade over Sofia is a strange decision considering the huge Bulgarian community in Portugal /there isn't a big Serbian community in Portugal/ and the higher purchasing power of the Bulgarians.

"TAP required a permit for the operation of the European extra-EU scheduled air services on through Lisbon-point routes - New Delhi - intermediate point - Lisbon and Lisbon midpoint -Bombaim - midpoint --Lisboa" said Wednesday the Republic Diary.

According to information provided by ANAC, "because these are two routes with limited traffic rights" interested companies to perform these routes have ten working days from the date of publication of this notice, so until July 25 to "rule on the same or submit a request under Article 5 of the decree - law".

Will repeat myself, but consider Sofia as focal point. It has 2 main advantages:

1. There is no direct line between Lisbon and Sofia (there is huge Bulgarian diaspora in Portugal) and also between Sofia and India.
2. It's on the midway Portugal and India

The traffic rights are owned by BH Air (http://bhairlines.com/). BH Air is a charter company which is seeking to became a regular airline. They are easy-going and looking forward for partnerships. They can just add their flight numbers by signing a share-code agreement and the flighs can be operated by TAP. I believe this will be a Win-Win situation for both sides.

Well, this news is wrong. TAP was not bought by Azul or any other Brazilian company but by a consortium of a local Portuguese businesman and the US aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman (backed by a couple of international investment funds). The fact that Neeleman also has a Brazilian passport and that is the founder of Azul is interesting but it has nothing to do with the purchase of TAP (as he has said himself repeatedly). Neeleman also owns Jetblue in the US. Strange thing the Portuguese media were always focusing on TAP's Brazil connections as the prime reason for Neeleman's interest. Not so. EU-Brazilian traffic is low now Brazil is in recession, internal Brazilian traffic is also low. Neeleman is not buying a Portuguese airline with good Brazilian connections, no, he is buying a EU airline. No doubt he will create more "synergies" between TAP, Azul and Jetblue, but my bet is he is after creating more US-EU connections with Lisbon as a hub. TAP might become a EU based transatlantic lowcost competitor to several other EU airlines and Neeleman knows like no other man how to do that.

Portugalia will be called TAP Express

Portugália (PGA), regional carrier TAP Group, will now be called TAP Express, and by July will be fully renewed fleet of 17 aircraft, said the CEO, Fernando Pinto.

In a press conference, Fernando Pinto explained that "two different brands confuse customers," especially foreigners who "find it strange too."

In addition to the new brand, the regional carrier TAP will be fully renewed fleet with new aircraft, acquired in "leasing", with a total investment of about 400 million euros.

According to Lusa reported, in addition to acquiring new aircraft, the investment plan in the carrier with regional vocation provides for an increase in the fleet, which currently has 16 aircraft - six Fokker 100, eight Embraer 145Private and two Beechcraft 1900D - for 17 aircraft (eight ATR52 with capacity for 70 passengers and nine Embraer 190 with a capacity of 100 passengers).

Fernando Pinto stressed that the new fleet of PGA (TAP Express) is 40% more efficient than the current fleet.

Since the privatization of the national airline, formalized on November 12, the new owners of TAP - entrepreneurs Humberto Pedrosa and David Neeleman - announced an order for 53 aircraft from Airbus Widebody and single-aisle, which includes 14 A330-900neo and 39 A320neo (15 A320neos A321neos and 24), which join up the new planes to PGA.

Entrepreneurs David Neeleman and Humberto Pedrosa attended the press conference.

In exclusive statements to the magazine "Vision", David Neeleman says he "would never have entered a tender to buy 49% of a company with all the problems that TAP has." At issue are negotiations with the government to reverse the air carrier's control into the hands of the state.

"The easiest was to say 'give back me the money and I'm out of here.' But I believe in TAP. I feel a great responsibility in the people who work here, "he explains.

For the American businessman who joined the Portuguese Humberto Pedrosa to buy the Portuguese company, "TAP is very valuable and can not die. Privatization happened because banks no longer lend more money and the government could not finance company because it could suffer heavy reprisals from Brussels because of competition laws. "

These statements come into apparent contradiction with the view expressed last week by the Prime Minister when António Costa said he believed that "things are going well" and that "there is no difficulty to reach an understanding." Neeleman, however, proves to be more flexible than in the first meeting with the Executive: "The government we have is this. Have your ideas, we need to respect. The most important thing in this negotiation is TAP ".

In the same interview with "Vision" magazine, which on Thursday go to the stalls, Neeleman reveals the strategy is to outline for the airline. One of the biggest betting involves the conquest of the North American market. TAP will now offer free nights in Lisbon passengers who want to scale two or three days in Portugal.

In March will begin the airlift between Lisbon and Porto. The operation will be ensured by Portugalia, with minute flights between 6:30 and 20h30m. At peak times the connections are made every half hour. Check-in is easy, direct access and passengers will only have to be at the airport 20 minutes before take-off. If a passenger's flight of 15 hours, for example, you can catch the next flight at no additional charge.

TAP suspends 4 links from Porto and 5 from Lisbon

TAP will suspend four flights from Porto and five of Lisbon connecting to different European cities, "unprofitable routes" and cease to operate from March 27.

In its official page on the social network Facebook, the air carrier informs that from March 27 (Easter Sunday) suspends flights between Porto and Barcelona (Spain), Brussels (Belgium), Milan and Rome (Italy) and between Lisbon and Gothenburg (Sweden), Hannover (Germany), Zagreb (Croatia), Budapest (Hungary) and Bucharest (Romania).

The company justify the suspension is made "in the context of optimization of its operation in order to improve the profitability of the company", since these nine routes are deficient.
Source of the air carrier had confirmed today the agency Lusa that the Lisbon-Bogota-Panama-Lisbon will be suspended and the connection to Manaus (Lisbon-Manaus-Belém-Lisbon), which will feature "optimized connections" guaranteed by Azul company by David Neeleman, shareholder of TAP.

These connections will also be suspended from March 27.

Last week, David Neeleman promised for this week announcing new destinations TAP, particularly to the United States.

Still, the president of TAP, Fernando Pinto, explained that the company's strategy is "much more to increase the number of frequencies [than the number of destinations]".

"We need increasingly to consolidate our position in strong destinations for so passengers know you have every day that flight, at a certain time," said the manager at the press conference it was announced that the Portugália (PGA) the regional carrier TAP Group, will now be called TAP Express, and by July will be fully renewed fleet of 17 aircraft.

In addition, the carrier will double the daily flights between Porto and Lisbon, while studying with ANA - Portugal Airports solutions to shorten the time required for boarding procedures.

TAP strengthens its presence in the US

airline starts flying to Boston on 11 June. July added another daily flight to New York, now through JFK airport.

The new A330 TAP should only arrive in June, but the company already has them to announce a strengthening of the US operation. As the Economic advanced first-hand, the airline begins in June to fly to Boston and from July 11 adds alo portfolio a daily flight to New York, now through JFK airport.

The new connection to New York marks the return of TAP to the main airport of financial capital in the US where ever flown before transferring the entire operation to Newark, but does not mean the abandonment of the airport. The airline not only maintaining but increasing links New Jersey, also announcing the completion of daily flights from Lisbon - are now five a week -. And the maintenance of two calls per week from the Port

The presence of TAP at JFK airport happens in a partnership with JetBlue, airline founded by David Neeleman. The aim is to establish a 'code share' [system code-share] with the 'low cost' US, which will ensure more passengers TAP connections on arrival in New York.

The offer of TAP to the US also includes a link to Miami with five flights per week, increasing to seven during peak season.

The flights to Boston, with prices starting from 799 euros, taxes included are on sale from today.

The new shareholder of TAP David Neeleman said today the agency Lusa, in New York, which expects to have a direct link between Lisbon and a Chinese city later this year.

"We are still analyzing that city connection and other details will be made, but we expect to announce the investment as soon as possible," Neeleman said.

The new route takes place as a result of Hainan Airlines China's entry into the consortium that bought the stake in TAP.

In the memorandum of understanding that closed the repurchase of shares by the State (which holds 50% of TAP) signed between the Government and the private consortium Atlantic Gateway, it reads that "the Portuguese State authorizes ever since the entry into the capital of Atlantic Gateway by HNA, a percentage to be agreed between the shareholders of the Atlantic Gateway and the HNA ".

Speaking to Lusa, Neeleman has ensured that the group will eventually be "indirectly with 10% to 13% of TAP", the announcement of this participation should happen "later this year" and that the route details with China "must be known at the same time. "

"For the knowledge I have, this would be the first direct link between the two countries," he added further.

Moments before, during a press conference at JFK International Airport, Neeleman explained how the Chinese will enter the capital of the company.

"As we reported, the Chinese have invested in Blue [airline] and Blue will make the investment in the TAP. The actions that they will take will be through the Blue's investment in TAP," he said.

"They're very excited about it, it will be great for them," he said Neeleman.

TAP Portugal today launched two new daily direct flights to the cities of New York and Boston in the United States, which start operating on June 11 (Boston) and July 1 (New York).

Flights are on sale from today.

These new routes join the destinations of Miami and Newark, which will have daily flights to Lisbon earlier this summer, and the link between Oporto and Newark that happens twice a week.

TAP thus increases its offer to 30 weekly flights between Portugal and the US.

Hi Everyone.

With TAP having recently received 2 new (newer?) A330s, could anyone please give me info regarding the A330 fleet? (Registrations, Delivery Date, engines, new or old IFE, new or old cabin, wifi)? If I am not mistaken, there are 16 A330's in the fleet, correct?

Thanks in advanced.

I had the pleasure to travel with one of the refurbished A319's with slimline seats: registration CS-TTM on flight TP612 (LIS-BRU).

The new seats offer +/- 2cm more legroom in the same configuration versus the old seats. For the 2h30 flight to Brussels they were comfortable enough..
Longer flights may be a problem: if they do like Brussels Airlines on BRU-TLV with their A320, your back will probably hurt a lot..

First A330 from TAP with renovated cabin and already bedding chairs is flying

- Fully reclining executive chairs - bed chairs;
- New configuration, more seats, more comfort;
- TAP invests € 70m and renews its fleet;

The A330 with the name of João Gonçalves Zarco already flies with the cabin totally renewed. This is the first of seven A330s which, by the end of this year, will have completed this process, which is part of the fleet upgrade program.

This program represents a commitment by TAP to improve the comfort and service provided to the Client and is based on the Company's capitalization plan, which invested 70 million euros in the renewal of its fleet. With the upgrade of these aircraft, TAP improves the offer to its passengers in all classes, aligning the entire image of the cabins with the A330neo that will integrate the fleet.

TAP's partnership with Portuguese companies continues, with the choice of materials and development of finishes by Almadesign, and the skin in some detail of the executive chair provided by Couro Azul.

The renovation of João Gonçalves Zarco's interiors counted on the work of 48 maintenance technicians and 7500 hours of work in the Hangar of TAP in Lisbon.

The TAP identity and its Portugality now mark the whole cabin, at the same time evidencing the bet on a path of modernity and the responsibility of a company that celebrates this year 72 years.

New in economy class

The economic booth is now made up of two categories: economy plus and economy. The configuration and design suggest a fresh environment, with all-new chair coverings in shades of green and gray in the case of economy, and shades of gray with some notes in red, for economy plus. This new category has more space and more reclining seats.

Business class more modern and comfortable

In business class, where the changes are deeper, the plane has brand new seats with full recline - bed seats - and bed length of 1.93 meters when fully reclined. Inserted in a luxury environment, they now offer 25 seats.

Other elements increase the comfort of passengers traveling in this class are headphone holders, individual reading light, tables and storage compartments, bottle holders, USB inputs and individual electrical outlets.
