Casablanca scraps metro plan in favour of trams
Wednesday, August 06, 2014

AT a meeting on July 24 Casablanca city council voted to abandon plans for a 15km elevated metro line in favour of expanding the city's light rail network

Preliminary studies for the metro line from Boulevard de la Corniche to New Medina and Sidi Moumen were completed in December 2012, but the council deemed the project to be too expensive.

The council now proposes completing the city's planned 79km light rail network by 2020 at a total cost of around Dirhams 16bn ($US 1.91bn).

The initial phase of the network was inaugurated in December 2012 with the opening of the 30.7km east-west Line 1 from Ennassim to Ain Diab and Facultés.

Three more light rail lines are planned:
  • Line 2: Sidi Bernoussi – Hospital (19km)
  • Line 3: Boulevard de la Corniche – Sidi Outhman (14km), and
  • Line 4 : Sbata – Lissafa (15km)

Another example of complaining about the expense of a metro line. I guess Casablanca's population levels may not be enough to support even one metro line.

Cost - benefit ratio of a metro network for cities like Casa are unprofitable. To weak economy, too little active people working on a high level and which would benefit from such a costly infrastructure. And do not forget, Morocco has neither gas nor oil such as other countries at a comparably level of development. Personally i am happy with several new tram lines. Fast to build, easy to maintain and flexible.

Alstom withdraws from Casablanca LRT contract
Monday, August 11, 2014

ALSTOM has pulled out of a contract to maintain Casablanca's light rail network citing "unresolved contractual differences" with Casa Tram, the consortium appointed by Casa Transport to operate and maintain the line.

The Casa Tram consortium of RATP Dev, Moroccan Deposit and Management Fund (CDG) and holding company Transinvest was awarded a €90m contract five-year contract in July 2012 to operate and maintain Line 1 from Ennassim to Ain Diab and Facultés. Casa Tram subsequently outsourced maintenance to Alstom, which had already supplied rolling stock, electrification and signalling for the 30.7km line.

Alstom told IRJ that Casa Tram will now take over responsibility for maintenance and Alstom Morocco will take all necessary steps to ensure the transition is implemented smoothly.

Alstom employs 40 staff at the purpose-built LRV depot at Sidi Moumen.

...

----------------------------

Morocco: it rolls for the RATP in Casablanca

OLIVIER Cognasse MOROCCO, MOROCCO BTP COP22 PUBLISHED 05/19/2016

...

Fraud to rival the Paris transport

Quite the opposite of the tram, which reaches a regularity rate of over 99% and a fraud rate of 0.25%. Something to be ashamed, the Paris tram with 13% of fraud officially displayed. Probably more actually. And "we want to experiment dockside validation in Ile-de-France," warns Elisabeth Borne. The Casablanca system is closed. Unable to reach the wharf without the portico of the validation ticket. Especially with a human deterrent presence of two agents per station, morning and evening, and in trains, with controllers and a police presence. The tram transports 41% of women, against only 15% for the bus ... The bad thing accidents, often severe. 130 were recorded last year, despite a 40% drop in one year.

A news that we didn't share with you, and which is more and more used for stadium : stations naming.

Amount of 10 years deal has not been published.

LA STATION DU TRAMWAY «LES HÔPITAUX» SE NOMME DÉSORMAIS «WAFASALAF»

Imprimer E-mail

STATION TRAM "HOSPITALS" NOW IS NAMED "WAFASALAF"

Print E-mail
Written by K.H Published: January 6, 2016

This is a first for Morocco. As part of a public-private partnership between Casa Wafasalaf and Transport, Casablanca tramway station "hospitals" will be named Wafasalaf for the coming decade.

Through this partnership, "Wafasalaf wishes to support the strategic vision of the government and improve the finances of the city," says Leila Mamou, president and CEO of Wafasalaf.

For his part, the Director General of Casa Transport, Draiss Youssef stressed that "this is a unique partnership that aims to improve the revenue related to the tram." "There is indeed an annual deficit of around 80 million dirhams, it is important to seek additional revenues to reduce the deficit," he said.

After negotiations that lasted more than a year, Wafasalaf therefore combines Casa Transport to provide more fluid transport systems, cleaner and more aesthetic.
