Is there any plan, or was there any plan, to reopen the section Livraçâo-Amarante, now in Iberian gauge and electrified?
Amarante is a town of some size, and (re)connecting it to Porto would be a good idea, methinks.
A bit like the Guimarães case in the past.

Official plans, there are none!!

There always were intentions!!

Six months ago, the new mayor of Amarante, together with the mayor of Marco de Canavezes, Refer and CP said that they was going to make a study to see what could be done on that 12 Km of line from Livração till Amarante.

Another thing, at midway between Livração and Amarante there is an aquacentre that has a lot of demand on the summer.

But i believe that nothing will be made on the that 15 years at least!!

The old line above Amarante!!!

Well yes, but we´re just talking about 12 km.
It´s just a matter of time, and I´d rather say that the same goes for the section of the Corgo line between Regua and Vila Real, which is short enough, too.

Both would need important upgrades of the track though, they´re much more bendy than the Guimarães line.

Not going to happen, it is not the policy of this country to do this kind of railroad investments, not until the next time of a lot of money will exist to waste!!!

The only reason why they are electrifying to Marco de Canavezes is because on the initial plan of the Euro 2004 it was supposted to be a electrified double track with no railroad level crossing. The only thing that made at the time was the elimination of the railroad level crossing.

And then there´s Viseu, too. Another city that´s bigger than many others in Portugal, and which became rail-less years ago, too.

Again the Galicia & Portugal 'optimism'...

Do believe in that, please, the cities in the north of Portugal are more populated than ever, crisis or not, so something will have to be done about it, sooner or later.

Well... surely later than sooner, but I believe the three cities (Amarante, Vila Real, Viseu), will have it again. Can´t tell you when, though.
