Sines will have new railway line

Sines will finally have a line of modern and efficient train to operate in summer 2021

He waited 30 years for the new line. To Elvas, will cost 310 million euros to Portugal.

The National Railway Network (REFER) - now integrated in Infrastructure Portugal (IP) - applied for new rail link Sines-Elvas the CEF Program - Connecting Europe Facility, which co-finance 50% of the respective value of studies and projects and 40% of jobs with works.

As president of the IP, António Ramalho, this project will have a new connection Sines to South railway line and will involve an investment base of € 512 million (and EUR 773 million in total), which will be co-financed by the program CEF at 202 million euros, which means that the Portuguese participation in this project will be 310 million euros.

This cross-border rail infrastructure project responds to a need claimed by Alentejo port for nearly 30 years. One of the obstacles to the growth of port activity Sines has been pending of the current line, which limits the total load of trains leaving Sines, the inability of locomotives go up the line with a total load of 1,400 tons - seen as the rail switch that monetizes the freight transportation service.

Top notch service, I have nothing to complain about. Train left and arrived on schedule. Very quiet inside. Tilting adds to the expierence. Tasty breakfast. Friendly on-board service. Comfy seats. And for two return tickets I've paid 102 EURO total. Bought tickets one month before the journey, on Comboios de Portugal website. Very easy to navigate, full English translation, you can choose your own seats and add additional services, like meals.

Highly recommended. Will travel again

You were very, very lucky!! First you went on a day you didn`t caught any CP strike (quite often on the last months), and train it seems didin`t had any delays along the way (it happens unfortunately)!!

For portuguese standars it is a bit expensive, but buying on-line has the possibilty of having lower prices.

I read somewhere that you said that is was full, it is the main connection between Porto (and then northern Portugal) & Lisbon and as lot of company headquarters and main services are in Lisbon it has ahigh demand and the possibility of being able to work on the laptop during the voyage it is a plus.

The voyage could be even faster, but the Norte Line is very saturated by other trains services in some sections, and between Gaia & Ovar the line it self it isn`t on the best conditions for hi-speed trains.

Did you like the voyage to Pinhão & Pocinho?? Till 1985 you could go to Barca D`Alva (location » portuguese border) and till 1984 (Salamanca-Spain) and go through these tunnels and viaduct (click here & click here)!!
