Perhaps the reopening of the line between Pocinho and La Fuente de San Esteban would benefit freight trains which go from Porto to Spain or vice versa.

On the other hand, it would be interesting for tourism. Imagine a Douro touristic train between Soria and Porto...

When it comes to border crossing by rail both countries seems to be disconnected, i mean in Spain the line from Vigo to Tuy is electrified meanwhile in Portugal the Minho line isn't (at-least the electrification works started) however the situation is reversed when it comes to Beira Alta as the line is electrified but the Spanish side isn't (is electrification in progress?).

Also as far i know the Evora-Elvas line will built as one track in Iberian gauge so you might have atleast 2 Intercity services per day between Lisbon and Badajoz (The high speed line was canceled).

Barca d'Alva - La Fuente de San Esteban line would probably need to construct new line as the old line has too many curves that would slow down the trains significantly and tunnels lots of tunnels.

The line following the Douro river from Valladolid to Soria province (and farther to Zaragoza) was closed more than 30 years ago.

I know, but if all the lines that follow the Douro river would be on service (including the Zamora-Salamanca section of the Vía de la Plata rail line), I think that it would be a good idea to create a Douro touristic train like the Transcantábrico or the Al-Ándalus, but international

Besides, the existence of the Beira Alta line is the perfect excuse to do nothing there.
Relatively to this line on the spanish side, the only way for Spain to invest some money in this is if the E.U. finances as a transborder project and for an tourism perspective to link Salamanca to the Águeda Valley or the Douro Valley.

An on a personal note i would like to link Porto to Salamanca on a more direct route!!

P.S.: Portugal could also do like 130 years ago and finance completely the rehabilitation of the line between Barca D`Alva and La Fuente de San Esteban and then give it to Spain!!

Edit: I just want to say that untill October there will be a lot of news like this in Portugal, because we enter on the phase of the propaganda news for the local elections in October of 2017!!

EMEF presents new generation of trains CP Alfa Pendular
Quote:
EMEF apresenta Nova Geração dos Comboios Alfa Pendular da CP
http://guardafreio.blogspot.pt/2016/...racao-dos.html

Finally ! The Portugese sets needed a dire refurbishment, but this was put back due to the bad Portugese financial state between 2011-2016. After losing its burdening freight arm CP Carga to MSC there is again some money for new projects..

What is the news around the lease of the RENFE S-120 sets to temporarily replace the Alfa's in refurbishment ?
Also a chance the Eurosprinters will be painted in the same silver/green livery like the Corail/Sorefame coaches ?

The lease of the RENFE S-120 was supposed to increase the intercity service thought Portugal however the government said no.So no S-120 in the near future.

The Eurosprinters will stay the way as it is.

From Railway Gazette:

First refurbished Alfa Pendular trainset handed back
24 Mar 2017

EMEF is refurbishing all 10 of CP's Alfa Pendular trains within a budget of €18m.

PORTUGAL: The first refurbished Alfa Pendular tilting trainset was handed over to national operator CP by maintenance business EMEF on March 24.

EMEF is refurbishing all 10 of CP’s premium inter-city trains under a contract worth €18m. The trains were supplied in 1999-2000 by a consortium led by Fiat Ferroviaria and are a derivative of its Pendolino family. The six-car trains are used on Braga – Porto – Lisboa – Faro services at speeds of up to 220 km/h.

EMEF is carrying out the mid-life refit at its main workshops in Entroncamento. In addition to general mechanical and electrical overhaul work, the train underwent ‘thorough refurbishment to improve passenger safety and comfort’, EMEF says.

New seat shells, foam filling and leather covers have been fitted, along with new lighting. The flooring has been renewed using cork-based material to improve heat and acoustic insulation; 300 m2 of carpet has been replaced, EMEF reports. The buffet-bar and toilets have also been remodelled. An updated wi-fi and mobile communications backbone has been fitted, and all seats now have access to a power supply. An external redesign has required 2 700 kg of paint, while 44 km of updated wiring has been installed. The refurbishment was carried out by around 80 staff with approximately 90% local content.

‘This project demonstrates EMEF’s ability to take its place as a lead company that can incorporate the contributions of other sectors of Portuguese industry’, commented EMEF Chief Executive Alberto Castanho Ribeiro.
