Nice thread Been browsing through my harddrive for a while. Here's my contribution:

Amsterdam IJburg. Fairly new city district built on man-made islands. This area is still being developed.

Amsterdam Funenpark. Interesting appartment blocks built in a park like environment close to the historic city center. The space that binds the
houses double-functions as a public garden evoking social interactions and spontaneous gatherings. Motorized traffic is not allowed there which encourages bike use (which is the best way to get around in Amsterdam anyway )

Moving south, Breda. I like this coffee bar, made by artist John Kormeling.

Eindhoven, where i'm from. The Emmasingel with the redeveloped Philips factories on the right. Today it houses apartments, shops, offices, a hotel,
a (very nice) grand café, library, exposition gallery, Philips design departments and the prestigious Design Academy.

View from the Design Academy towards the technical university and station district.

And the most southern major city, Maastricht. At the banks of the river Maas. I love this city for it's sublime way of blending old and modern.

More Maastricht, the Domenicanen Church. It has been made into a book store / coffee bar. It also hosts lecture programs.

Greetings!

'glass farm' by MVRDV, schijndel, the netherlands
Quote:
image © persbureau van eijndhoven MVRDV has just released news on the opening of their new 'glass farm' sitauted in the town square of schijndel, surrounded by the church, town
hall, main street. the metal-framed barn structure is a scaled up version of the traditional vernacular architecture as a result of intensive studies of the
remaining agricultural constructs, in collaboration with frank van der salm who made a collage from which the archetypal farm image was extracted.
this image was then printed using a fritting technique on the structure's most striking feature, an 1800 m2 glass skin that wraps the entire envelope.
the large size of the project respects the original local designs and symbolizes the town's growth into a city, as well as providing enough floor area
to accommodate the restaurants, shops and a wellness center. see designboom's earlier coverage on the conceptual phase of the project here.

Wow just have to say (although I'm originally Dutch and I know my country pretty well), when scrolling true all of these pictures I'm still amazed by the amount of very good modern architecture our country holds. Keep them coming thanx for the great work and effort.

If you would have payed some attention you would have noticed that the project has been realised in Eindhoven, not Delft.

The contracted company however is called Ipv Delft.

So I can understand the confusion.

It was a brief visit to Amsterdam earlier this summer, I consistently found myself being drawn away from the historical center and into the more modernist suburbs...

Fantastic thread! Keep it up.

I'm off to the Netherlands again for my third time next month. Looking forward to experiencing some more Dutch Modern Architecture!
