while I agree that politicians and government officials in the Philippines do at times tend to talk the talk without really walking the walk regarding many large-scale projects, the article above is dated 2003. I believe it should be completed or well underway by now... or I hope it is.

Why was it posted if it is already three years old? This usually leads to misunderstanding of the current situation.

Yeah, I was wondering about all these also, the authorities starts talking about things just to talk and dream about it then they put in in papers as if they really would be doing it. Lots of yacks, they are all talking the talk and not walking the walks...

I second the motion BS!!!! LOL

I'm pretty sure it's installed. It's just the article is old and because it was posted recently it makes it look like it still has to be done.

I'd be more curious about the expanded LCC terminal they plan to make out of the current terminal.

sorry fellow forumers for my over-reaction. sometimes it is just so frustrating to read the same stuff all the time. it leaves the impression that nothing has really been accomplished.

Could you imagine how frustrating it would be if you were living in the Phils? Hehe! It'll probably be ten times as frustrating!

Yeah, the Philippines don't have that German precision yet. The country's way of crafting the best mousetrap is still years behind that of Germany.

After ten (10) years since the conception of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) and after conducting various master development plans for the airport in Clark, the CIAC Board finally approved a Master Plan for the development of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA). The Master Plan describes the framework for the development of the DMIA to the year 2025 and beyond. It provides the basis for the planning of aviation activity, facilities, land development, and transport access in an integrated way. It also provides local government agencies, potential investors and the community with a statement of the way in which the airport intends to grow and develop. The DMIA Master Plan will serve as a guide to CIAC to ensure that the highest standards in airport management are maintained for safe and efficient airport operations. This will also make certain that the short and medium term goals and decisions are consistent with the long term vision for the DMIA.

Radar Procurement back to top

After being delayed for almost two years due to the processing of the necessary documents to facilitate the financial aspect of the project, the DMIA Terminal Radar Approach Control Project finally commenced of September 2005. This project will greatly enhance the capabilities of the DMIA since this a major NAVAIDS facility that needs to be in place at the airport to enhance the safety of all aircraft operations at the DMIA in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. This is the last NAVAIDS equipment needed to complete the facilities at DMIA and this will also ensure a 24-hour continued airport operations even during adverse weather conditions

Entry of Low Cost Carriers back to top

With the influx of the Low Cost Airlines operations in the Southeast Asian Region, DMIA became the airport of choice of Tiger Airways and Air Asia Berhad for their operations in the Philippines. Tiger Airways started operations at the DMIA on April 5, 2005 with three flights per week to with the route Singapore – Clark – Singapore. By the end of 2005, Tiger Airways already have fourteen (14) flights per week with daily flights to Singapore and another daily flight to Macau. Air Asia Berhad also started operations at the DMIA on April 5, 2005 at fourteen (14) flights per week with daily flights to Kota Kinabalu and daily flights to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

judging from the graphics, the passenger terminals(main and satellite) is very similar to Hong Kong Chep Lak Kok International Airport's, only improved, pati rin yung shape( Y-shaped ang main terminal, X-shaped ang satellite terminal)... even the whole airport is very similar to HKG. siguro kinopya ng CIAC o kung sino man ang gumawa ng master plan yung layout ng HKG, inimprove na lang para mas mas maganda at mas efficient... pero may kulang... nasaan yun Low Cost Terminal?

don't you think the plan looks kind of compressed? it looks like it doesn't have space for further expansion. or are they really going for the one gigantic terminal feel instead of a multi-terminal complex like changi?
