Development authority to expand roads for better connectivity

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will expand three more radial roads for better connectivity to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) soon.

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department has approved the tenders for expansion of radial roads on Saturday.

While Radial Road Jeedimetla to Saregudem (RR No 11) has been awarded to M/s GVR-DRA (joint venture) for Rs 69.90 crore which is 18.35 per cent less than the estimated contract amount, another road ECIL crossroads to Cherial crossroads (RR No 16) was bagged by M/S KNR-SLMI (JV) for Rs 49.25 crore which is 21.93 per cent less than the estimated cost.

Radial Road from Nagole junction to Gourelly crossroads (RR No 22) has been awarded to M/s SLMI Infra Projects Ltd for Rs 31.67 crore, which is 25.40 per cent less than the estimated contract value. The successfuly contractors have to take up civil works, strengthening and widening of radial roads.

HMDA identified 33 radial roads for smooth flow of traffic from the inner ring road to ORR few years ago. These roads were identified based on traffic flow studies, which recommended that these stretches need to be widened and developed to ensure a hassle-free travel to reach ORR. As all roads cannot be taken up at one go as it requires Rs 2,500 crore and with JICA agreeing to give only Rs 380 crore loan to the HMDA, development of radial roads would be taken up in a phased manner. The urban development authority bears 30% of the cost, while R&B and municipal administration and urban development departments contribute 25% and 10% respectively.

"Once the entire 158-km ORR is ready, all radial roads should be expanded to have better connectivity to the ORR," ORR Chief General Manager N Surya Prakash Reddy said.

So far 10 radial roads were taken up and of them seven were completed. Officials said the seven roads include Indian School of Business to Gachibowli ORR, Agriculture University, Rajendranagar to APRL, Langer Houz to Vikarabad, a four-lane road from Tippu Khan Bridge to Gandipet (Narsingi), Byramalguda junction towards Nagarjunasagar road to ORR and Pahadisharif to Tukkuguda on Srisailam state highway were completed.

Call for tenders

Of the rest, five have been proposed and the administrative sanctions for three were already issued for Medak-Narsapur road, ECIL to Keesara and Nagole to Gowerlli and the tenders called for by the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) which has been entrusted with the task.

Two others were planned at Shaikpet to Kokapet and Radhika junction till Yadgarpalli junction. While the administrative sanction for the first has been received and the HGCL is in the process of tenders, necessary sanction is awaited for the latter.

Of the total 33 radial roads, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would be involved with five stretches and assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) would take care of work component for some others. The entire project has been estimated to cost around Rs.2,500 crore.

The current thread "Hyderabad Roads & Flyovers" was initial created for "Radial Roads"....there wasn't enough sponsorship...so, it is changed to generic "Hyderabad Roads & Flyovers".

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has issued a Letter of Acceptance to the joint venture of KNR Constructions Ltd and SLMI Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd for strengthening and widening of the radial road from ECIL X Road to Cherial X Road in Hyderabad from km 7.0 to km 17.18. The project, valued at 49.25 crore, will provide better connectivity to the Outer Ring Road.

KNRCL and SLMI Infra Projects hold 51 per cent and 49 per cent share in the JV company and the project is to be completed within 18 months from the specified date, a company spokesperson told Projectmonitor. The company had submitted its bid for the project in November 2011.

The project is part of HMDA's plan to expand three radial roads for better connectivity to the ORR. The municipal administration and the state urban development department have approved the tenders invited for the expansion of radial roads, to be executed with loan from Japan International Cooperative Agency.

HMDA awarded the first of the contracts, the Jeedimetla-Saregudem radial road (RR No.11) to GVR-DRA joint venture for 69.90 crore; ECIL X Road-Cherial X Road (RR No.16) to KNR-SLMI Infra joint venture for 49.25 crore; and Nagole Junction- Gourelly X Road (RR No.22) to SLMI Infra Projects Ltd for 31.67 crore.

HMDA had identified 33 radial roads for smooth flow of traffic from the inner ring road to ORR a few years ago. The total estimated cost of development of these roads is 2,500 crore of which JICA agreed to fund 380 crore with HMDA bearing 30 per cent of the cost and the state road and bridges department and municipal administration contributing 25 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority plans to develop these roads in a phased manner before the entire 158-km Outer Ring Road stretch is ready. The authority has taken up 10 radial roads projects so far out of which seven have been completed.

The completed radial roads are Indian School of Business-Gachibowli ORR, Agriculture University, Rajendranagar-APRL, Langer Houz-Vikarabad, a four-lane road on Tippu Khan Bridge-Gandipet (Narsingi), Byramalguda Junction- Nagarjunasagar Road-ORR, and Pahadisharif-Tukkuguda on Srisailam state highway.

Excellent map. Can you also list the end points of radial roads 4, 20,21.

Eager to know the status on combined MMTS and Metro map with addition of Moula-ali-sanathnagar route?

I was only using the info from the article. Don't know the status on the ground. And it looks like RR-15 and RR-5 weren't tendered by HMDA. They have a RFP for the preparation of a DPR for them.
