STAMFORD | South End Redevelopment

Stamford,Connecticut

I recently went to Stamford to check on all the redevelopment and Urban Renewal going on....there's alot city wide. I only revisited Harborpoint and South End and part of the Downtown. Most of the Urban Renewal is in South End in the old Industrial and Warehouse areas. Some of the Warehouses have been refurbished and will be turned into lofts , most were torn down for luxury high rises...and mixed use buildings. The Downtown Urban Renewal involves getting rid of the parking lots and replacing them with mixed use buildings....

The Northern part of Stamford is underway Urban Renewal along a few streets and where the streets are upgraded and made into Muti-Modal corridors and the zoning is changed to encourage 2-3 story mixed use buildings kinda like a Main Street affect. The Parking its placed in the back and the sidewalk is widen. Same is happening along the route 1 Corridor. To go with all the Redevelopment a Tram Network is in planning and an addition train station on the East side.

Thanks for sharing, no single living human being in the pictures. Maybe because of the weather and/or the day you visited?

It was abit chilly that day...but the Newer areas are still pretty auto-sprawled so less human activity on the streets.

Can anyone provide updates on this? I'm curious how stamford is continuing to develop, isn't Bridgeport doing something similar?

I drove through Stamford on New Years for the first time in awhile. It really stepped up its development game in the past few years. There's a more recently updated thread for Stamford development projects along with individual threads for larger projects in the NYC suburbs forum: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1455056

Recent Update from wtby4000 over on City Data
Quote:
1. High rise apartment building under construction at plot C8 in South End. Plot is bound by Walter Wheeler Dr, Atlantic St, Harbor Point Road and Washington Boulevard. 391 apartments on 16 floors

http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news...nt-6699515.php

2. Earthwork seen in plot C1 (northern side of Walter Wheel Drive)

3. Footpath connecting the two clusters of Harbor Point - Yale & Towne cluster in the north and Commons Park cluster in the south. The path begins at Walter Wheeler Drive across from Commons Park South and goes north where it crosses Woodland Avenue and then veers northeast to end at Pacific Street between Woodland Avenue and Henry Street.

Looking south to Walter Wheeler Drive

constructing equipment along footpath, perhaps to be used for construction at plot C1

entrance to northern section of footpath on north side of Woodland Avenue

footpath curving around to Pacific Street

entrance to footpath on Pacific Street. This can be easily missed and lacks bollards, posing a possible safety issue. Luckily a falafel truck was parked there on the day I visited.

4. Houses awaiting demolition around the intersection of Henry and Garden streets

The architecture is so cliché and plasticky. Some higher quality facades are welcome.

Wait, I thought Connecticut was an economic wasteland? Seriously, the redevelopment of the state's urban centers is why past due.
