We are also seeing the fall of the Tea Party just as rapidly as we saw their rise. The Senate may well have been in GOP control right now if not for the collection of lunatics that bunch managed to nominate. If it isn't obvious by now that the general public doesn't share their frothing radicalism (especially on social issues) then I don't know what it would take. The writing is on the wall for the GOP. They will either adapt to new realities and rid themselves of these nitwits (and the blatant racists who find a home there) or risk turning their party into a shrinking sideshow of decreasing relevance. |

Why does Florida allways need more time than all other states to get it's results ?

The two parties are almost evenly split here in Florida and it takes counting virtually all of the votes to get a clear winner. We also had an unusually long ballot this time and it took a lot of voters a long time to get through it.

I think somebody needs to give people @ the Office of Elections tons of Cuban coffee so they can hurry the f* up. It's embarrassing! The whole country is laughing at us. This tells you how Rick Scott's voting suppression tactics which cut early voting by almost a week were the biggest mistake he did. He should've allowed 14 days like in 2008; it seems that the GOP has a bigger problem: diversity. Instead of leaning to the center like Bush did, they allowed the right-wing nut-jobs to run the party with these outrageous comments about rape. Even the Cubans are flipping to the blue side; a report from the Herald just said.

And just to revisit the earlier question in this thread, I think we can now call South Florida firmly blue. Social extremism just doesn't play here at all.
Looks like that wing nut Allen West lost his seat in congress as well. Hallelujah. |

That's the Republican bastion of Miami-Dade. A Cuban co-worker just told me the reason this voting group is flipping is 'cause the new wave of Cubans are more used to socialist government and simply 'cause Obama allows them to visit Cuba without restrictions

Heh, my dad thinks that the whole Syria civil war/ Libya embassy attack, was ignored just for the presidents own benefit. Honestly, I don't blame him for believing that non sense as much as those crazy Cuban talk shows where there is basically the equivalent of Fox News crazies on spewing conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory down here in Miami on T.V. and on the Radio which my dad watches/listens to.At the same time he said, if he had voted (he doesn't vote), he would have supported Obama still since he seems more in touch with the poor, so go figure that one out lol. I really think we should be thanking our other fellow Hispanics in Florida especially Puerto Ricans for turning this state blue. Also, a few blocks from my home the local polling place (Kendal regional library) had the last person voting come out at 1:00am!!!! All I can say about the voting mess down here and the waiting in hours to vote is this "THANK GOD I VOTED ABSENTEE"!!!

Didn't the state make big cuts to money spent for polling for this year's election to save money?

I'm not sure, but what has to change is long lines as some polling places and no line at others. This has to be better organized. It just wasn't the best way for organizers to distribute their resources.

A work buddy of mines told me that when he went to vote on election day there was two different voting precincts in the same building he went to vote and one was empty, while the other one that he had to vote at had a line that was hours long.

From what I hear, this is the type of thing that was going on all over the county. They should know approximately how many prospective voters live in a particular precinct and they should plan for that. This is where the whole thing was very poorly organized, and I think Penelope Townley's head is going to roll over this. We're the laughing stock of the nation again. Luckily, where I voted, there were two precincts, but not a long line at either one of them when I went. We're still waiting for them to call the election. Is Florida officially blue or red? We still don't know!

Looks like even the Romney people are now acknowledging the president won Florida (just saw a Herald story) so not much real suspense there.Still, this is absolutely ludicrous how long it's taking Dade to make it official. Good Lord. (now I think they're being fed valiums AND vodka in there!) |
