I have seen a lot of flags including state Flags and flags of the Communist Party of Vietnam. It is rather contrasting with China where there are a lof of state flags but virtually no flags of the CCP

As elsewhere in South East Asian countries as well as China, Saigon uses countdown timers on traffic lights. I said that before and I will say/ask this again: it's a very useful feature and I don't understand why this is not used in Europe

Random views and buildings in District 1 (and maybe outside of it, I'm not too aware where the boundaries of central districts were )

Those small ATM boxes are actually air-conditioned which is nice. Especially if it's hot outside

A slightly closer look. The building certainly has a quality feeling about it

Surroundings of Bitexco Tower

Next stop will be upstairs at the Bitexco Saigon Sky Deck which is located on the 47-49th floors and about 170-180m above ground. That may not sound too high (compared to places like Shanghai SWFC or Canton Tower which are 100+ floors and 400+ meters high) but we have to keep in mind that Saigon isn't nearly as much high-rise and tall as some other cities in Asia. Which makes it a perfect height in order to see the city and observe more detail

Following pictures will be from the Sky Deck of Bitexco Tower.

Wonderful photos! So what is the official name of this city, is it Saigon or Ho Chi Minh city?

The official name is, of course, Ho Chi Minh City. Saigon is non-official but used very widely.

It's very easy. AirAsia flies to HCMC from KL, Bangkok and maybe other locations, It's very cheap to fly and fairly easy to get around (I've never been to Vietnam before and didn't know anyone there). Vietnam visa is also just a formality and takes a couple of days. So all it takes is just a ticket and you're there enjoying a great city and a wonderful country which Vietnam certainly is.

Lots of Russian cities have this.

You are welcome! what camera do you use?

Also is it just my impression or is Ho Chi Minh City much more cleaner and developed than Hanoi?

Fascinating city and brilliant architecture as well .
I really love your threads

BTW , the countdown timers have a downside as well . Here in Chennai , people start speeding to beat the signal when it's about 10 seconds to go :P
But I guess that wouldn't be very different from speeding through yellow lights .

Continuation of my Saigon photo tour

View from the observation deck of Bitexco Financial Tower. At the moment this is the best place in Saigon to enjoy the urban panorama of this magnificent city. It is instantly evident that Saigon is a well-planned place and this is probably not least thanks to the French who happened to have stepped into this city a while ago. I was almost shocked to suddenly realize that Saigon does indeed remind Paris seen from the top of Eiffel tower in some ways. But of course Saigon is a very different city from Paris in almost every aspect with its own unique character which is why I enjoyed it so much

Thu Thiem New Area which is a designated new CBD of Saigon. It does look very much like Shanghai's Pudong back in the late 1980's and will follow the idea of a new CBD built from scratch in a new location. Saigon does have big plans on the table and I hope to see lots of construction in this area soon
