Here's a couple more renders I've been working on of Australia's new super tower, Australia 108. Enjoy or not

thought of lego buildings when i saw it.
small but significant consolation... there is a structure on top and not some giant needle/antenna/spire.

It's very disruptive, so while the sentiment behind its presence may be a good one, the execution is...wanting, and it's therefore difficult to view it in a positive light, at least from an architectural perspective.

No, its much more than that, it just doesn't meet some people's aesthetic. The architect doesn't like pretty, he likes chunky, bold, expressive design with an impetus on solutions rather than generic prettiness.

Anyway here's another render of mine.

Props on the render. But no amount of architectural "rationalizing" will change this sow's ear into a silk purse. Melbourne deserves better as the legacy of this development opportunity may be a "tallest" for many years to come.

It shouldn't be this creature.

Tend to agree. I think that people who are proud of their country and city love it because of its height.

Thanks, but I wasn't rationalizing the tower into anything. I said the architect doesn't like pretty so that's rather obvious. Melbourne doesn't care that much about pretty, but Sydney and Gold Coast do . Melbourne's aesthetic is it's own and doesn't care very much about what the rest of the country is doing.

Here's another of QBT tower also going up in Melbourne, not a supertall (275m) but I'm sure it would meet a lot more of this forum's aesthetic, but it took 30 minutes to draw and I think it's pretty lazy architecture, a mickey mouse stencil tube extruded and that's about it.

I would rather see that go up than the current design.

Personally, I really like it. The bits sticking out are quite strange, but that is what will make it iconic and instantly recognisable.

Its actually a really nice design if you take those sticking out bits and the weird contraption on the roof out. Otherwise its probably the worse skyscraper I have ever seen. If its built the people of melbourne will hate it.

I could take a [email protected] and it would look better than this building. Certainly not better than 432 park avenue. This building is just

so you basically want it to look like a larger version of Eureka with different colours?

No, I was just saying it looks decent without all the 'bits.' I would like a total redesign, with something which will fit the city without making the inhabitants vomit whenever they see it.

I think 99% of people agree with dead. Its a very ugly building purely because of all the funny stuff Oh well it's so tall for a western country period so I still like it

I think people need to relax a little. We are judging the building by some computerised renders. Lets just wait and see what it looks like once it has been built! I personally think it will fit in well with the surrounding, modernly designed skyscrapers (QBT, Prima Pearl, Eureka, Fresh Water Place, etc)

The quick drawing looks okay, but no more than that. A tower with this design could be built in any city anywhere on the world. Whether you like the proposed design or not, it has a recognizable shape and can thus function as a true landmark for Melbourne.

As much as I am happy Melbourne is getting a new super tall... the design is absolutely hideous. Would have to see how it turns out though.
