California - Yosemite/San Francisco/Santa Cruz

A few years ago I took a trip to California with the main intention being to visit Yosemite National Park, but also to spend a few days in and around San Francisco.

Here are the pictures from that trip. I wish I had more pictures to offer, but at that time I had not fully caught the photography bug - so these are just a sample of some of the better ones

Yosemite National Park:

The first view appears, and what a spectacular sight:

Tuolumne Meadows was my favourite area of the park - a glacial, granite wilderness:

Not as many photographs of San Francisco as I would like, for the reasons mentioned above:

A trip to Alcatraz:

The three images immediately above are of a residential suburb in the north of S.F ( cannot remember name - but really liked it - expensive though)

Jane--amazing pics. Though I live in the area, I have not seen all the sites you posted. I have--to my shame--never been to Yosemite! Do you have any recommendations about where to stay etc?

We stayed just outside of the park at a hotel called Tenaya Lodge - which was fine; but if you could stay within the boundaries of the park itself that would be better. There is a range of accommodation in the park - ranging from authorised camp-sites, to the historic Wawona Hotel. Best check the National Park website for info.

I particularly loved the less visited, alpine area to the north of the main valley - called Tuolumne Meadows. Just sublime! You can find accommodation here too.

Sydney - Yes, that's Tuolumne Meadows. if you've ever watched the film 'Into the Wild', you may know that the Eddie Vedder soundtrack includes one song called 'Tuolumne'?

Thanks all for the appreciative comments.

I think that San Francisco would be an ideal place to live; such a great city; open in aspect; next to the ocean; & within driving distance of Yosemite and other National Parks.
