Absolutely incredible pictures Jane. I wish my photography skills were half of yours. I've always thought about going to Yosemite but your pictures make it definitive - I must get there soon.

The picture right before the Giant Redwood is amazing. Did you have to climb up along some death defying cliffs to get there? The main thing you hear in the news about Yosemite is all the people that killed there each summer falling off cliffs and the like. I have a healthy respect for heights so I am not going to hike any really crazy trails.

Thanks to italiano & to SimsPlanet

600West: The view that you refer to can be reached by car! You park up at a particular point, and walk the rest..... The main valley is very touristic; although you can get away from the crowds by hiking particular trails. You have to have permission to camp though - at anywhere other than the authorised camp-sites.

We went in July - and the main Yosemite Valley park was busy, but we then travelled north-east to Tuolumne Meadows - which is far less visited and was, personally, my favourite location ( We didn't get to visit Hetch-Hetchy in the north-west of the park). Giant granite slabs & domes stretching off into the distance; sub-alpine, glacial - very expansive, and, simply, stunning.

Accommodation is available in the park itself at the various central locations - although it needs to be booked well-in advance and can be more expensive than accommodation outside of the park. We stayed just outside of the park - and it was fine, but I would recommend staying inside the park if you are able. You need a pass to enter the park, which you purchase at entry points.

You have access to some incredible & awesome sights in The U.S. You must visit.
