SEATTLE - Sonics Arena (18,500)
Hedge fund manager Chris Hansen has a deal in place with the Seattle City Council to build a multipurpose arena on land he now owns in the SODO neighborhood of Seattle (just south of the Mariner's SafeCo Field):
http://seattletimes.com/html/localne..._arena17m.html ![]() The City of Seattle will contribute $200mil towards the $490mil project which will be paid back with rent paid by arena tenants and taxes collected on admissions. The start of construction is contingent on Chris Hansen acquiring and moving an NBA franchise to Seattle, and after completion of an environmental review. The review will take at least a year and construction will take about 2 years for an opening date some time in 2015. The arena will be configured to host NHL hockey as well. The City of Seattle's environmental review process includes at least 2 rounds of design review (Though a project this size will likely see at least 4). The first Early Design guidance was released yesterday, but includes only basic configuration descriptions and site context anaylsis: ![]() ![]() http://blogs.seattletimes.com/today/...rena-released/ http://www.seattle.gov/dpd/AppDocs/G...endaID4178.pdf

You sure #2 and #3 aren't convention centers and not stadiums? lol
They are certainly... unusual. |

Option three looks like the top few decks of a cruise liner.

None of them are remarkable.

Option 3 is their preferred option which means unless the review board seriously objects to it, it will end up looking something like that. And even if they don't approve of it (please dear god don't approve of it), they'll probably just go back to the drawing board rather than using one of the other options.

Option three is certainly different, but not in a good way. In fact, all of them are pretty naff, even if they're concepts.

Option 1, meh. Option 2 is pretty slick, something different. Option 3 has way too much going on

Even though it looks more like a Convention Center, I like #2.
#1 isn't ugly or even that boring, but it's just doesn't say "21st Century arena". As for #3.... I don't even know what the hell they were going for there. |

Speaking of sprint center, why doesn't the nba expand to 32 teams, give back Seattle it's franchise and give Kansas city a franchise of it's own to play out of sprint center?
Think about it, Seattle is one of the largest cities not to be near any major basketball team or even have a basketball team in the arena, and the Kansas city metro area is over 2 million and is not near any major metro areas, it's not like Pittsburg, Baltimore, San Diego, Tampa or Cinncinati, which are probably already taken up by other metro areas and their teams (I know if Pittsburg had it's own team, that people from the city would support the team, still, Kansas city is a fairly untapped area). |

Seattle will probably end up stealing an NBA franchise away from somewhere, maybe an NHL one too... |

I think that if the NBA can't find a home for the Kings (be it Seattle, Anaheim, Vegas or wherever), then they should be contracted.
