Texas is the only state in the country that looks like it could be successful on their own. California is an economic disaster the way the rest of the United States is headed under Obama. Currently, Texas would be the 10th wealthiest nation in the world if they left the union. Why should Texas stay aboard a sinking ship?

Texas would be just like South Carolina in 1860. If they leave many others will follow. I could see the entire Southeast along with many other states such as: Missouri, West Virginia, Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, North and South Dakota also leaving. This would not be a third world country but a powerful one with Texas anchoring it down.
If Texas does secede, it's first order of business should be to build another fence ... this one to keep Californians out.

I actually heard a lady say this while talking on the phone in the grocery store the other day: "This country is fucked! Not only did we elect a ****** once, we elected it twice! We would be better off if the south just broke off from the US!"

Yeah, that attempt worked out well the first time, sister. Calling Obama a "******" then referring to him as "it" without any regard of the people around her. I had to actually physically restrain myself from slapping that woman into another area code.

I'm glad, for the woman's sake, that you refrained from that typically leftist impulse. There are always going to be people like that woman, just as there are always going to be the kind of people who tweeted, for all to see, things like, "We're going to f*** some sh** up if Romney wins."

heh. I'm not really a violent person, but you're on the right path. I can't tell you how many of my fellow liberal friends swore to GOD they were going to move to Canada if Romney won. Yeah, OK. Send me a postcard! I'm going to stick around and see this shit through, even if it kills me.

I staged a sort of personal secession 12 years ago. I don't vote. You can opt out, to a degree, without leaving. After all, you could conceivably hop from country to country, always leaving when things 'don't work out."

Yep, yep. We have just as much of a right NOT to vote as we do to vote. I sat out both GWB elections because I couldn't in good conscience vote for anyone running. That often times confuses foreigners, and fellow citizens alike. "HOW CAN YOU NOT VOTE?!!!!" Well, just 'cause. Needless to say, living in the south, there were no limits to the number of people telling me how I should vote.

Texas is a crappy place with more residents receiving Medicaid benefits than any other state. Hardly a model for anything (other than good food and some good music). Sure it can exist on it's own, so can Somalia.

Good to know that violence is moving to the center, therefore palatable to increasing numbers of Americans. In any case, your hand-wringing about a thread lock, on the heels of your inflammatory post, are duly-noted.

I would have typed a long lengthy response about why spencer114's opinion is flat out wrong (although it is true that Texas has one of the highest percentage of people without health insurance) but I figuered it would be a waste of my time doing so.

Anyways comparing a state that has the most Fortune 500 companies ranging from KBR, Schlumberger, Texas Instruments, American Airlines and Whole Foods to Dell and ExxonMobil and saying that the state would be similar to a forth world civil war torn country such as Somalia is a joke to say the least.

... and don't apologize for the uninsured figure. Knowing Texas, it probably just has a higher-than-national-average number of people who are too independent and feisty to get sick.

VA does receive a lot of Federal dollars, but it isn't to take care of our people. It is the build weapons systems and manage data for the government. Texas receives money from the Feds to feed its people. Big difference. Adjusted for population, VA beats the hell out of TX for the number of Fortune 500 companies.

Now we're hearing that, in California, your dog might cost you $100,000 a day:

http://www.strike-the-root.com/that-...you-100000-day

If I'm Texas, I'll accept 400,000 more fleeing Californians, then I shut the door, secede, and build a wall along the Western border. Enough is enough!

TX is pretty third world (well developing world) with regards to health outcomes as well.

I suppose it's possible that Exxon recently moved its Virginia workers, to Texas, so they could get sick more easily.

Texas does not recieve money from the Federal Government, it is actually one of the few states that contribute funds (unlike North Carolina, Utah, Mississippi, Wyoming, etc).

It's fine that you don't like the state but don't make up facts to state your case, it just makes you look foolish.

Even people who just pull stuff out their asses, to make fun of Texas, are giving up and moving to Texas.

Last I checked, Texas only got back 80 cents out of every dollar it remits to the feds. This means that Texas could secede and immediately extend a 20% tax break to its citizens. OR, it could use the savings to extend low-interest loans to distressed Virginians.
