Wow! Those are awesome. I've wanted to do something like this myself. Maybe next year when the line is more complete (i.e. catenary poles, wires are fully installed).

Great idea for a thread, Som!
That's a good nine mile stretch, so kudos for taking on such an ambitious project. Looks like you've already made it half-way. ![]() Once the Green Line is fully functioning and people realize how awesome it is to live directly on a rail line, University Avenue may very well be the place to live in the Twin Cities.

Great thread mate!!! As far as I understand some of the rail lines are pretty old and just being repaired/updated, aren't they?

Like Major Deegan said, the Central Corridor (future Green Line) is all new. Other than the Hiawatha Line (which opened in 2004), there hasn't been a streetcar network or LRT system since 1954 in the Twin Cities.

However, when they started construction on the central line they did find the rails of the old University Ave streetcar which had been paved over. I think there was a news story about that which may be the source of the confusion.

Thanks for your hard work, by the way! I'd like to continue this thread as a general catch-all thread for all things central corridor. Looks like some of the train sets still operate under the old black/yellow/grey livery, while others have already been upped to the modern "Metro" look. I hope they plan on bringing those up to date as well.

Speaking of old streetcars, I know there was a streetcar down university until the 50s. I wonder if these are the original tracks? The part of the green line east of 280 has these old rails and pavers in them. Pretty cool.

Great pics!
Was the University Ave overpass of SR280 completely replaced, reinforced, or was nothing needed to be done to support the LR? And same question for the Washington Ave SE Mississippi River bridge. Thanks

As for the Washington Avenue bridge, that was reinforced and refurbished. You can see the new piers and paint job in one of the pics above. Here's the link to that particular photo.
