Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. You cannot erect rubbish residential towers as you want.

I would say London has the best individual buildings and the best streetscape experience i.e. both The City and Canary Wharf are much nicer to walk around than La Defense or Frankfurt. However, none of London's clusters can rival Frankfurt or La Defense (or Moscow for that matter) when it comes to skyline silhouette or density. Even Warsaw is currently more impressive.

Yes, you can erect rubbish residential towers in Paris. Look at one's next Eiffel tower.

London luckily almost avoided that and now building first class resi towers which Paris can only dream of.

More or less perfectly put and matches my thoughts also.

One key word from that though is "currently" - skylines evolve as do cities. London is evolving at a much quicker rate then any city in the EU so it's just a case of wait and see.

I also agree with Axel. Paris is amazingly beautiful in a unique, sophisticated way. London is beautiful because it just has everything an architecture fan would want in a place.

La Défense have what City or Canary Wharf don't have and will never have : an iconic monument and more important. A life

Well I would argue St Pauls is an iconic monument and to say London City doesn't have life is just the most bizarre comment.

A life in LD? You must be kidding... crappy station with smashed glass by the entrace, crappy shopping mall (even through CW also has a crappy shopping mall) and not much else to do or see. At least CW has nice eateries by the canals and nice waterfront which again LD lucks and would never have. Also, ride on Dockland railway through CW is on the same level of excitement as riding tube in Shanghai and you don't get that expereince anywhere else in Europe.

Exactly. Even Axelferis has said many times that Canary Wharf is his favourite business district to be in the EU.

Wood wharf will quickly add a human side to the area with a large residential project planned.

And just over the river... The o2 Arena, the worlds most popular and busiest stage (above Madison Square Gardens and Manchester MEN).

I recognize my love for CW.
But paris whole feeling skyline is the one of the most beautiful city.
It's sure i prefer to have a dinner at CW than in LD.No problem with that.

I think people are forgetting that 20 years ago. London had ONE tall building. LD was already large.

Now look. And in another 20 years at the rate things are being built in London... I can only imagine.

On top of that canary wharf is just a stone throw away from the queen elizabeth park where one of the greatest events in human history was celebrated (2012 london olympic). And then you have the stratford west quay (the largest indoor shopping mall in europe). In additional to that theres a fantastic emirate cable car just right next to the skyscrapers...also the canary wharf station is many times more efficient, clean, bigger and better.

Well my opinion is this:

5 - La Defense - PARIS

4 - Canary Wharf - LONDON

3 - FRANKFURT

2 - MOSCOW

1 - The City - LONDON

BUT i believe that London and Moscow are pulling away VERY quickly from the other Cities... the rate of construction is amazing for both cities. I think it is a matter of time to see which one will be better - currently I believe that London just about clinches it.

Paris has potential, but at this rate it is far behind the likes of London, Moscow, and Frankfurt.

I also think Cities like Rotterdam and Warsaw will take over Paris soon as they are building and designing at a much quicker rate.

But always keep in mind that there will always be more financial demand in London and Moscow than Paris - its just the way it is.

So unique Paris, so iconic Grande Arche, so biggest european business district
When you see La Défense, you understand why the word "elegance" comes from the French.

I guess London just tries too hard to get a decent skyline. The design of the new skyscrapers and highrises is too extraordinarily imo although the industrial touch suits London. But I have to say that Frankfurt does it better: the highrisees and the skyscrapers are elegant, classy and form a beautiful skyline. each new tower is a perfect supplement for the already balanced cluster.
