Shame the Shard has lost it's way on the south side. Maybe they could not afford the land?.
The Shard is built in the most suitable place and id say that location is perfect for 310m tall building. A new mini cluster will be created near by the shard in a few years. I will post renders of proposed towers for southwark cluster.

Yes - but it would have looked a lot better within the central London Cluster. Disagree to that and you are in denial. Why the mess?

2,5km is not 2miles, but 1,5 mile(1,55 and some change) And I know where it is, I even walked from Arc de Triumphe to Le Grand Arche.

And I ask you again - have you been there? Because the largest mall in Paris, Les Quatre Temps closes at 20:00, the same with the restaurants

Some people have to be really insecure (or ignorant) to claim things like Paris has no skyline since La Défense isn't in the city proper.
Administrative borders in France don't match the urbanized areas, and the Paris administrative area is ridiculously small compared to the true size of the city.
La Défense is closer from the Champs Elysées than Canary Wharf is from the City in London for example.

Outside the city proper... ...of 19th century Paris I ask you again. Have you been there?

As GM said above, Paris is bigger than the official borders claim and the city proper ends behind the second ringway. Orly, CDG and Versailles are in suburbs, not LD.

In France we say Paris La defense .
Ld is paris extension which belongs to the grand paris which will become a administrative reality in few years.

roissy CDG belongs to paris area.
you can do nothing against this.

Paris is bigger than its administrative boundaries just because it's just the fault of politics who delay the merging of the whole area as a single entity.

don't worry Paris is the first destination in Europe with the city itself+ disneyland zone

Any building taller than 1000 ft is not allowed to build in the city cluster due to its proximity to the london city airport.

Previously planned and approved height of the pinnacle tower was 288m which is about 945 ft but a few months ago the constructors announced that this building will be redesigned due to soaring cost (more than £1 billion and its height will be increased too. But, i am sure it wont be taller than 1000 ft.

La defense district was planned in the 60s (1960) To protect the historic center of paris
That towers are in inner Paris or outside Paris, I don't see a difference.
Quite the reverse, to build towers out of the historic center of Paris make that Paris is a unique city.
why always built skyscrapers in the center of a city ? why not outside ?
the architect PEI said, to built towers in the center of american or australian cities is not a problem, because there is nothing to preserve in this cities...... but in Europe with their hiistoric centers....

The Shard looks better when it stands alone. It is because of its uniqueness and because it is simply beautiful. And because of it's height, in cluster it would be lost and we would not be able to appreciate it. It is like saying that they should build a cluster of megatalls around I WTC.

Do you think you have the universal opinions that are always right and no one can disagree with you? Why is your every post styled into "disagree with me and you are in denial" or "disagree with me and you are just making excuses"? Why do people have to have only your opinion and nothing more? What are you? World's best expert on everything? People disagree with you, get used to it!

That would be awesome! 1WTC looks so lonely right now, especially in contrast to the old WTC imo.

I agree that the Shard looks good where it is, and SO143 is correct in saying that there are other towers planned for the area (although none will match the height of the Shard). The location is also suitable because the Shard is right on top of one of the busiest transport hubs in London: London Bridge Station. It's also making the South Bank look a lot nicer, which is a bonus.

Not quite - City Airport only affects height limits in Canary Wharf. The City has a 1,000ft limit because of planes descending into Heathrow Airport, which fly directly over the top of London.

Majunga's core is near to its final height ? It would be great that Majunga imbalance the two sides of La Défense.

london is no.1 mate. the city skyline alone is capable of competing with other major european rivals and it offers jaw-dropping architecture too.

not to mention about 60x approved and 40x proposed quality skyscrapers+highrises.
