I like Frankfurt skyline more than La Defense because of it's height variation. London has this strength and also integration of ancient and futuristic buildings.

CW is the only cluster which makes London skyline stronger, but it is still less dense ...
The city has some high quality skyscrapers (especially this cucumber) but till now, there are just a few highrises
I think CW can compete with Warsaw and Rotterdam ... The city with Milan
Mayebe if CW and the city formed one cluster, London skyline could look as impressive as Paris and Frankfurt ...

Can't really compare to LD which was erected since 1883 and it got the first tower in 1958. Both frankfurt and la defense skylines are much older compared to other european skylines. that's why both of these skylines look good and their skyscrapers look outdated. CW has a different story. it was a total waste land until a decade ago but it is now internationally recognized as one of the most important financial districts in the world. not to mention the world headquarters of HSBC bank is based there alongside other European HQ such as JP Morgan and others. This is what CW looked like back in 2000.

and CW in 2013

The transformation has been incredible and the size of cw has been planned to be doubled by 2020.

and in the near future

Hum! do you realise that distance between CW and the city is more than the distance from La defense to eiffel tower? if you want these clusters to be merged then there would be no competition between 2 different financial districts. if you watch the documentary video of canary wharf it will tell you about that cw was created in order to challenge the financial power of the city and to take the jobs back to east london and save the businesses from the city domination. you cant move the city's beautifully designed iconic skyscrapers to cw because banks in cw require huge floor plates within the same building that's why you see many fat, chunky, ugly and boring huge boxy skyscrapers. and you cant move these boxy buildings to the city too because of the limited space and awkward layout of the streets in the city which is an old city created thousands of years ago. even if you combined these two clusters at the same location you would need the bus and underground stations which are 2 times more than the current size in order to serve more passengers and commuters. london should not be compared to frankfurt or paris or others because it has it's own different history, different ambition and they are built or being built for different purposes.

is this what you want?

Not to worry, once Wood wharf and Greenwich Peninsular are completed there won't be another city in Europe as dense as that part of London.

There are certainly plenty of big and exciting projects planned for the Docklands, but this one is more of a visionary render, for example that spiky TV tower thing was never actually proposed as far as I'm aware, and Wood Wharf won't look like that. Plus there are at least 4 200m+ proposals missing from that render.

1. London
2. Frankfurt
3. Moscow
4. Rotterdam

The obvious emission is that of Paris. I'll explain; La Defense looks far too stumpy to me, it's as if someone has come and chopped off half of the buildings. There's not much individual distinction between the towers, rather it's just one sort of mid-rise mess without a landmark building. I appreciate there may very well be projects under construction there (don't keep up to date with it) and so in the future that may all change though. It's just not to my tastes.

Rotterdam's skyline also proves that density/number isn't all that matters, the bridge catapults it into the top tier of skylines for me.

thanks for pointing me out and i know it is not accurate (hint: title of image is imagine skyline) i used that image just to show the sample and give you the idea of transformation and where it is heading to. new proposed and approved buildings are even more beautiful than the ones in that render posted earlier. for example Diamond tower which has a brilliant design and many others u/c towers like providence tower, baltimore wharf tower etc will create a bit of architecture variation in cw.

That doesn't mean CW has not interesting developping projects, but they are just not the ones shown in the render

Please don't start spamming future skylines/buildings in this thread. Thank you.

this is the discussion thread and when you discuss the skylines and buildings in details the topic automatically goes beyond just the comparison of skyline pictures taken yesterday or today. it is a huge topic and i understand you don't want this thread to be filled up with the pictures of proposed or approved projects. but it is just wrong when you used the word spamming and i don't complain when other people posted plenty of pictures just to demonstrate the craziness of russian people who climbed up on top of the skyscrapers or other irrelevant pictures of small european towns. we should tolerate each other in order to create a peaceful atmosphere.
