London Wall.

"London Wall was the defensive wall first built by the Romans around Londinium, their strategically important port town on the River Thames in what is now the United Kingdom.

The wall appears to have been built in the 2nd century"

Not that any of this even matters..

What matters is relevance in todays world. After 2000 years, London is still at the very front of global city status.

Rome... not really... a nice holiday destination. Milan... again not really. These are just cities.

London is a global player of the highest order.

Moscow, London or Frankfurt for me.

London remains stubbornly ugly from a few angles. I don't think the weather helps, a constant grey backdrop.
The Shard didn't quite live up to my expectations. Guys tower next door is a monstrosity. If it wasn't a hospital it would be ripped down tomorrow.
But there are many developments planned and I think London will look nice in the future.

Moscows skyline is excellent.

Hey don't take it wrong I've never been a London basher, I love the city really. To some extent it just seemed too much to state that London has juxtaposition of elements of 2000 years ago...there are of course cities with much more layers of relevant art history in the continent. London has many qualities, and to me it has the best skyline in Europe, but this one not. And I think London it's ok with it. lugdunum was a small hamlet and now london is a global city. Milan was more important 2000 years ago or 600 years ago where it was one of the richest city in Europe, and after a period of decline in the 1600-1700 it is starting to wake up again right now. There's no absolutes, there are just relative coordenations. Depend on the factor you choose.
And please, please, please, never underestimate Rome, for art's sake!

If you really want old, then Stonehenge in England is about 5000 years old. With some of the oldest parts dating back 10,000 years.

Maybe the most excellent architectors are from France.

Isolated and dedicated ?

La Défense = - 25 000 inhabitants
- 180 000 people working there
- 2600 companies
- 50 000 students
- 8 million tourists a year
La Défense is located between Paris ( intra-muros ) and the most active and wealthiest department of France and parisian area ( Hauts-de-Seine ).
In a nutshell, La Défense is situated in the heart of the parisian megalopolis.

Nothing special by some European cities measure - see Arco di Tito in Rome, 81 year A.D.:

Again, London is really great, but, please, "older than 2000 years"?
When Europe and all these cities being highlighted on this thread were being crushed and erased during the 2nd world war .. St Pauls Cathedral in London shone like a beacon of light and hope .. It is indeed an icon and how will it be percieved in 2000 years from now ?

Paris is indeed beautiful .. but it lacks the zeitgeist and verve of London ..

Paris is a museum to London's zoo ..

London, like Berlin, suffered trauma in the 2nd world war ...

Paris was spared this ... and now seems a mausoleum in comparison.
