la defense is the only place in europe where skyscrapers keep popping up, yet the skyline doesnt change. i cant tell whether this is a good or a bad sign.

There are 2 towers currently U/C whose design will add something new/modern to La Défense' skyline:

Majunga (194m), visible in the above pic where the red hoardings are.

D2 (171m)

Air² (202m) due to start next year

France probably is the most fastidious country in the world when it comes to growing tall buildings, in La Défense included. Owing to the terribly slow judiciary procedure (offering too many means to appeal/each legal challenge taking one year to be dealt with.) The major projects like PHARE or HERMITAGE PLAZA are the best examples, they won't start (if they're not miscarried by the socialist governement by then) before 4/5 years as they face heaps of legal challenges (nymbys/associations...)

To sum up, if you want to build a tower over 230m in France, you'd better think twice & get ready to fight for years to make it happen...that's why La Défense still lacks very tall buildings...
