what will be built on the far left of this pic where you can see just the core?
not sure what it is mate but i guess it might be a new mid-rise tower being built for the greedy bankers.

thanx, but I guess it is not the 100 Bishopsgate Tower cause that tower will be right next to Heron Tower.

well, Russia is wery diversified country... it is a federation for a reason even if it has very centralized government this days... clearly one can see vivid architectural differences between Saint Petersburg and Moscow... or between wealthy Moscow with its rapid development and farther east metropolises like Yekaterinburg or Novosibirsk. I have no idea why do you need to bring some stereotypes into this. It is a fact that there are architectural differences. It is just interesting to see them, to give a little thought what is the reason for it etc... One thing which was probably mentioned already in this thread or similar is that it seems that PoMo was/is more popular in Central Asia, when in Europe tendency was to leave that behind (in terms for example this back-coated mirror glass (if I use right english term..) or some weird architectural details)...

p.s london can eat warsaw or frankfurt or any european city for breakfast when it comes to the total number and value of under construction projects.

Firstly, London is not the financial center of the world that is still NY.
New York has has all banks and Finanzistutionen the U.S. and many from around the world. In addition, many super successful companies like Apple, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, etc

secondly, steel and glass has almost everyone skyscraper, this is nothing special, and the shard was so Expensive certainly other reasons. Valuable materials for skyscrapers facades do you find also at Opera Tower or the new Main Gate in Frankfurt.

I dont enjoy getting into these arguments because they are a bit petty but I find it unbearable when people are so adamant about something without weighing up information to back it up. I am no financial expert, nor will I ever be but I do read and I do take "stock" (excuse the pun) of which cities are the financial giants etc etc.

All the indexes continue to highlight London as the worlds "financial capital" the latest and most sought index the GFCI (Global Financial Centres Index) rates London at 807, NYC at 787 and HK at 761. Frankfurt is 10th at 701.

It is not about headcount (employees) - or how many companies are situated there. It's about the money that is transacted and floating around within those buildings. Yes NYC has Apple and Microsoft etc but does it matter? London has the likes of Royal Dutch Shell, HSBC, Vodafone, GlaxoSmithKline but we all know stock exchanges are a small percentage of the true capabilities of a cities financial merit.

Still - the argument is pointless. America's have NYC, Europe has London and Asia has Hong Kong.

These 3 are the most important and it matters little what position they are in. The end of the day as long as you make money, who gives a sh*t?

I have to agree on this one that London is a big financial center as all the Fortune Global 500 got thier HQs there, London either has the global HQ or just the European HQ as in the case of Goldman Sachs , JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch etc..

In addition to that London has an enormous amount of Hedge Funds, Mutual Funds, Retail Banks ,Commercial Banks or Investment Banks however NY has two stock exchanges Nasdaq n Dow Jones while London has only one stock exchange FTSE but then in USA there is no centralized financial hub as many cities in US are competing with NY when it comes to global trade so NY is not the only center in US as trade is distributed through out dozens of cities in the US.

I just can't picture Frankfurt as a leading financial center in Europe as Frankfurt isn't a global city like London it has a long way ahead, really long way ahead!

If it's easier, you can say Frankfurt is the a fnancial hub in Europe and London is in the World. Different leagues after all...

well, Frankfurt is not that far behind, nr 10 here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_..._Centres_Index

interesting ranking anyway... especially Zurich (5) and Geneva (7)... so important yet no single skyscrapper (those are to nice and cosy cities to spoil the old skyline with skyscrappers probably)
