Iron Maiden , Aerosmith,Bryan adams who had scheduld concerts in Delhi all cancelled their shows but played in Blore. Recently Metallica too

Megadeth had played in Blore in 2008 itself whereas I think they recently had a show at Delhi during Formula 1 [ not sure ]

Infact Iron Maiden have played 2 diff shows in Blore

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/delhi-to-...e/41770-8.html
http://theviewspaper.net/concerts-in...distant-dream/

Scorpions when they came last performed in mumbai and Blore

So the statement " Delhi has hosted all of them whenever they come to India they do come here in Delhi as well along with bangalore is not entirely accurate

Just for curiosity I am asking this question...

I see lot of rock concert news in this thread. What about the traditional style of music or dance? Where are they held? Where do I get that information?

The primary reason for the bands to skip Mumbai is the prohibitively expensive rentals (multiple times that of other cities, especially MMRDA grounds) for venues and probably higher entertainment tax. After 2008, security is a big concern too. Of late, some of them perform in Pune to attract crowd from both cities. If it works out, we will see more of concerts in Pune.

Quote:
. "We had thought of it earlier, but then Mumbai is a pretty expensive city, somehow things did not fall into place - we thought its better to put up the concert in northeast," said a spokesperson of the Neoclasse, the official promoters of the band.

Queen of classical music coming in January

Quote:
Shubha Mudgal will perform on January 6 at 6.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Being a Hindustani classical, Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, and popular Indian pop musician.

She has been awarded the 1996 National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film Music Direction for Amrit Beej, the 1998 Gold Plaque Award for Special Achievement in Music, at the 34th Chicago International Film Festival, for her music in the film Dance of the Wind (1997), and the Padma Shri in 2000.

She is also close to progressive movements like Anhad and Sahmat.

Born in an academic family to Skand and Jaya Gupta in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

As a young girl she started learning Kathak in Allahabad following the foot steps of her sister. She once replied to a dance examiner's routine query of Aap kis gharaane ki naachti hain? (What style/form do you dance?)" with the retort, Hum apne gharaane ki naachti hain.

She later switched to Hindustani Classical Music as her vocation of choice while maintaining the same individualistic attitude. Her first traditional teacher (guru) was Pandit Ramashreya Jha in Allahabad.

She continued her musical education under Pandit Vinaya Chandra Mudgalya at the request of her first guru.

After graduating, her training continued under Pandit Vasant Thakar in Delhi, and more informally with other established singers as Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, Naina Devi and Pandit Kumar Gandharva.

Capturing moments in black and white

Quote:
Catch an exhibition of iconic black and white photographs by one of India’s noted photographers, Raghu Rai, as a part of Tasveer’s seventh season of exhibitions.

Raghu Rai was originally trained as a civil engineer, before taking up photography at the age

of 23, in 1965. A year later, he joined the New Delhi based national weekly magazine as their chief photographer, moving on after 10 years to become the picture editor with a prestigious Kolkata based weekly. In 1977, he returned to New Delhi to become the picture editor, as well as its active photographer, for a leading national weekly. Henri Cartier-Bresson saw an exhibition of Rai’s in Paris at the Galerie Delpire in 1971, and was sufficiently impressed to nominate him to a reputed photo agency.

In the same year he was honoured by the Indian Government with the Padmashree Award-approximately India’s equivalent to a knighthood. Unlike many photographers, Raghu Rai has deliberately remained focused on the universality of Indian life and its many cultures.

This exhibition has been selected from his wide-ranging photographic oeuvre, to focus on his work in the photography of the street and other public spaces.

A music fest for, of and by the teens

Quote:
BANGALORE: That passion for music continues to give a sense of purpose to youngsters to express themselves creatively can be witnessed soon.

Come Saturday and eight bands - mostly teenagers, including a five-member band of 13-year-olds - will slug it out for the top three spots at the Battle of the Bands, to be held at the UB City amphitheater. This will entitle them to one gig each at two of the most sought after venues, and a song recording deal with a prominent studio in the city.

It all began when Rishab Ramanathan, a Class XI student of Mallya Aditi International School, and guitarists-cum-vocalist of his school band, The Genuine Sakes, woke up one April night to scribble mindlessly in his notebook. He had an idea which had to be put down on paper and discussed with his band mates.

"The concept of reinvent music was born in April after my friends and band mates agreed with my vision to help create a platform for budding young musicians," said Rishab.

His other band mates, and co-founders of 'Reinvent music', Siddharth Varkey, Shiv Moola and Dhruv Shia Rao, then persuaded the school principal to give the young music buffs in their school time and space to practise their musicin a band set-up.

"We choose about 25 bands and got them to stay back for practice sessions in our school. Based on their skill levels, , and individual's ability to gel with others,

we formed four bands. We helped the four bands select song lists and allocate skill sets before they could finally come up with their own song sets," said Rishab.

This was followed by a request to other schools , in the form of a drafted letter to principals, to get as many young bands from schools and pre-university colleges to participate at a music event that was set to pitch the most talented teenage musicians against each other.

Out of the 15 bands that performed at the prelims, 11 registered themselves through Facebook, while the other four used emails and made calls to ensure their place. "The grand finale is set to see eight very interesting acts fight each other for the top spots," Rishab said.

Shashank Akella, a 16-year-old commerce student of St Joseph's Boys High School, is set to perform with his classmates for the first time in a public space, and that too in the presence of his parents. "I have performed before with my guitar teacher at the Sunday jam but never with my peers. This is going to be exciting," said the vocalist and guitarist of band Vortex, one of the eight bands which have qualified for Saturday's grand finale.

Rock buffs go gaga over Guns n’ Roses

Kickstarting their first ever India tour, the legendary American rock band, Guns n’ Roses performed a three-hour long set in Bhartiya City here on Friday.

Quote:
Local rock band, Thermal and a Quarter opened for them, building up the excitement levels of the eager crowd.

The crowd went berserk as the band played their classics like ‘November Rain’, ‘Sweet Child o’ Mine’, Welcome to the Jungle’, ‘Don’t Cry’, ‘Paradise City’ among others. There was also an interesting audio-visual projection.

Fronted by Axl Rose, the only remaining member from the original lineup, the band has undergone a lot of changes in their lineup since their formation in 1985.

Their current lineup for the tour comprises Axl Rose (vocals), guitarists Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, DJ Ashba and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboardist Chris Pitman.

Deep Forest is set to perform in Bangalore

Grammy Awardwinning ethnic e l e c t ro n i c a outfit Deep Forest will perform in Bangalore on December 13, as part of Sony Music’s Folk-tronic presents the Deep India concert. The Sweet Lullaby hitmakers — Michel Sanchez and Eric Mouquet — are collaborating with santoor player Rahul Sharma to release an album titled Deep India, which will bring alive a fusion between traditional Indian symphonies by Rahul Sharma and electronica by Deep Forest. As a part of this album, Deep Forest and Rahul have created a special track called Viva Madikeri for the launch of a five-star property at Madikeri in Coorg, which will be premiered at the Bangalore concert (which will begin at 7 pm) and is scheduled for release in Juanuary 2013.

Eric Mouquet of Deep Forest says, “I am very happy to come to India and Bangalore. I have always been enthused by India’s multi-cultural heritage, including its legacy of traditional folk music. It’s great to work with Rahul Sharma, the young and talented Indian artist with exceptional santoor playing abilities, and with him the Deep India project is poised at creating western music with a rustic twist. I also believe that the initiative taken by Sony Music India will be something that music enthusiasts will appreciate, globally.”

Periphery to perform in Bangalore on December 16th

India is one place most members of Periphery never thought they’d get to visit, much less play music in. But, as luck would have it, the American band is now set to perform in the city next week. Mark Holcomb, the guitarist of the band, tells us about the band’s expectations of the concert, even as he gives us the dope on how he feels their music has evolved and their plans for the future.

Known for their heavy, modern, and progressive sound, with a signature blend of polymetric grooves and soaring melodies, this rock act is known to push the envelope of modern metal music. And this has contributed to their growing fan base here. “For years I’ve heard we’ve had a fast-growing fan base in India, and it’s honestly a place I never thought I’d get to visit, much less come and play music,” starts off Mark, “Some of our most enthusiastic online fan response comes from India, and other bands I’ve talked to that have played India - Tesseract, Skyharbor, and so on, have said it’s just a different level of passion from the fans, not unlike a place like South America or other parts of Asia.” And while in Bengaluru, what’s on their itinerary apart from the performance? “I’ve heard a ton about Bengaluru, being such a modern city and with so much to offer in terms of tourism, food, technology and so on,” he gushes, “We don’t have much time in the city, I believe only one day for sightseeing - but trust me, I will definitely use that day to see what I can. I haven’t done much research on famous sites to visit, but I’d like to see Bangalore Palace, and I’ve heard there is a cool botanical garden in the city.”

Periphery has its hands full with Juggernaut. “We’ve been writing non-stop for it since even before Periphery II came out, so it’s gonna (sic) to have a wide scope. It’s gonna (sic) be epic. And weird.” And, how do they unwind, as a band, after a show? “On tour, I’m big on being a tourist and getting lost in whatever locale we’re in. The other guys have their own ways of relaxing on tour, but most of it generally consists of just getting enough rest,” he concludes.
