Old Iloilo airport up for sale - DOF

MANILA - The Department of Finance is eyeing the sale of the the old Iloilo airport in April after the successful sale of the government's 46-percent share in the Philippine Telecommunications Investments Corporation, the Philippine News Agency reported yesterday.

Finance Undersecretary John Sevilla said the bidding date for the 54-hectare property in Mandurriao District in Iloilo City is set on the fourth week of April. Sevilla, however, did not disclose how much the government will pay for the property since the pricing would be based on the property value around the vicinity of the airport. cont'd

NEW ILOILO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT at SANTA BARBARA

It seems that the the imminent opening of the new Iloilo airport in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan is pushing through with no major hitches. The Sta. Barbara bypass road is already being asphalted and the access road going to the airport is now complete with landscaped center islands and street lights. The physical structures such as the terminal, control tower, and runway has already taken shape and look like they’re ready for use.

The new airport took some 8 years to make possible at a cost of P8.7 billion. The three-story passenger terminal, about 12,000 sq. meter in floor area, houses the baggage conveyor on the first floor, the check in area and the airline offices on the second floor and the pre-departure area on the third, and the arrival area along the corridors that lead to the first floor. The airport can accommodate six aircrafts simultaneously parking at a time.

According to news reports a test flight was conducted on January 26, 2006. Though, the results of the test still hasn’t been publicized. Senator Franklin Drilon will grace the event, as he was one of the people who was actively lobbying for the completion of this historic project.

If things go as planned, hopefully without any disturbances similar to what happened to terminal 3 of NAIA, the New Airport will be opened in April 2007.

The old airport will then be closed and will then be handed down to the winner of the bidding, set next month on February 2007. Already 5 companies has signified in their interest to acquire the 55-hectare old airport lot in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. The are Ayala, SM, Robinsons, Filinvest, and Rockwell. According to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, the airport site will have an initial floor price of P1,800 per square meter or P18,000,000 per hectare.

Govt to get at least P500M for old Iloilo airport
03/01/2007 | 04:13 PM

The government on Thursday announced it would bid out the 54-hectare airport in Mandurriao, Iloilo on April 24, and said it would be expecting P500 million to P2 billion for the old airport.

The Department of Finance on Thursday issued an invitation to prospective bidders to get the terms of reference and bid package for the airport, from the Bids and Awards Committee.

The committee is set to conduct a pre-bid conference in Iloilo City on March 13 and another one in Manila on March 15 to entertain queries from interested investors.
Prospective bidders would be given until March 27 to submit pre-qualified documents. Eligible bidders would then be notified on April 3.

The Iloilo airport will be bid out on April 24.

Part of the sale proceeds would be used to pay a P6.2 billion loan from Japan Bank for International Cooperation, which was used to finance the construction of the new Iloilo International Airport in the Sta. Barbara – Cabanatuan area.

The proceeds will also be used to fund the construction of a first class highway interconnecting the provinces of Iloilo , Capiz, Antique and Aklan.

The government hopes to raise around P27 billion from the privatization of big-ticket assets this year. -GMANews.TV

New Iloilo Airport is the first in the country to have modern, latest technology belonging to Category F as determined by the International Civil Aviation (ICA) Organization. This means the new Iloilo airport is accredited as a qualifier for international standards.
