time to change your gear @Pacific. Or keep your mobile on all the time. Btw, did they expand the bypass road? How about the access road to the airport?

Looks like everyone is betting for Ayala Land Inc to win the bid. Btw, Ayala Land will start to develop a residential subdivision within this year (as per news). If they also win the old airport's site bid, it will surely make a big impact on Ayala's investment in Iloilo. Again, it remains to be a wait-and-see game.

it doesn't look like bigger than i expected, but the terminal building really looks good. sana may direct flight na ang davao to iloilo, para di na mag via Cebu...

i wish the same thing, franz. Our friends from Davao had experinced so much hassles in going to Iloilo 2 years ago cos of delayed flight and staying in Cebu. I wish there'll be direct flights to Iloilo SOON from other parts of country as well.
Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines has designated Cebu as their VisMin hub. That is not likely to change anytime soon.

It's just like how U.S. airlines are having their own hubs. Delta Airlines, for example, has a large U.S. air-route network centered around its main hub at Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Even short-haul flights within Eastern United States needs to change planes at Atlanta. That has made Atlanta the busiest airport in the world.

Similarly, Mactan-Cebu International Airport will continue to be a stop-over point for all regional routes within the VisMin area (given its strategic location--it's in the middle of the Philippines for peeps sake).

But Hubs do add up in the United States depending on market and expansion and air traffic. We're already a maritime hub (although not as big as Cebu) for Western Visayas.

So, we may never know what will happen in the near future given that we have a new airport, a fuel depot in proposal, an increasing trend in air passenger traffic in Western Visayas and a strategic location also in Visminda area too (not only Cebu that is smacked in the middle of the country, but Iloilo too). Maybe not now but in the near future, we too be a hub for air traffic. There are a lot of Ilonggos in Mindanao that sometimes find it inconvenient to have a stop-over, who knows?

We are very opportunistic about this new airport of ours since finally after being left over by the rest of the Philippines for more than half a century, finally the sun rises in the Iloilo once more.

reposted from airplanes airports

Excellent planning then. Even up to a parallel runway you say. Good Job. I hope it includes enough space for lengthening too should it be needed.

btw. Bernie/Chymera/weck our Iloilo Ilongo stalwarts please post your best pix here in this thread, this is an impressive airport we should share, add new updates as well, would you have stuff on the bacolod one? For showcasing

Nice link bustero. Thanks and all.

Guys, don't worry about who's who being the hub of Visayas or Mindanao. Nothing of it matters. The new Iloilo Airport has not been started its operation yet and let's just spare many controversies linking about it. Like Bernie says, it's more than half a century that the Mandurriao Airport is servicing Iloilo and the rest of Western Visayas. It's high time for Iloilo to see a dawn of new air transporation. I just wish Iloilo-Negros Air Expressway will be resurrected as well, making Iloilo as their base airport.

let's help spur WV's economic prowess. Bacolod airport will be opened 6 months later. Western Visayas will definitely see a new dawn of air transporation. Keep the region moving !

Damgo na lang ko sina. It may be not practical to serve such a short-haul route since ILO-BCD are so close and the fastcraft business are doing well serving the routes.

Well, I still believe that this airport has the potential to be a hub but not concluding that it'll be or it'll be today. We may never know what the future holds except what we do now for the future, right?

What I wish is that they increase the ILO-CEB routes to even just 2x a day per airline. One in the morning and the other by afternoon. Someday...

it's just the name Bern. I still want to see the oldest air expressway servicing Iloilo-Manila route. It doesn't matter what name it carries at present. It's but a name. Do you think Lopez will revive it?

I don't think so for now. They'll be concentrating more with their broadcasting empire.

they're moving in all directions. The presence of the GK-Lopez in Iloilo right now is a testament of their willing ness to help back their fellow Ilonggos. It might not be now but in not-so-distant future.

Everyone's awaiting Ayala's entry to the heart of the ilonggo nation. Be it a Residential or Commercial Investment or both.

so nag-re-route na sila. Wala na subong ginapalabay ang jeepneys sa bypass road? It's good news. Gina-ready na nila ang lugar for the opening. And lapit na lang gid.

that's right. An airport with so many names indeed:

Iloilo International Airport (by Iloilo Province)
Western Visayas International Airport (by WV's region)
Panay International Airport (by RDC)
Graciano Lopez Jaena International Airport (by Lopez-Jaena Founation)

But there you go, it's not the name that counts ika nga. It's the service the airport can offer to all Ilonggos, Panaynons, visitors, guests and tourists in and coming in to Iloilo province.
