These types of roads are not suited to be called "expressways" or "freeways". It has very short curves and slows down speed and only delays travel from one city to another. In the US for example, freeways up in the mountains have long curves and they constructed it to minimize these curves and can maintain speeds of up to 100 to 120 KM/HR.

What we need in the Visayas region is to construct freeways and viaducts that will link Leyte in the east to Iloilo in the west. This should be a completely new minimum of four-lane road network that will connect these regions. It will speed up travel and commerce and will enhance the development among these regions, especially tourism.

they should be.. visayas is now also a booming region..

depends, 4 lanes with a median, no intersections only interchanges and with only smooth curves. that's it - you have an expressway or freeway.

Perhaps, the population and the traffic isn't that high. It's really hard to compare in other countries. Transport of goods are enormous in the US and that the land mass in the US is huge that does not need to be connected by bridges. Bear in mind that there are also rural areas in the US with two way traffic and they are considered UShighway. They only expand when the traffic is starting to grow. I did think about the way you were thinking in the past but realized the difference is there. The scenery around that highway is really nice BTW.

Old US Hways that are two lanes are mostly the old school road network before the more robust modern freeway system was constructed. The freeway system was built to speed up travel from one state to another.
