Gothic Architecture

Gothic architecture is one of the main European architectural styles. It originated in the "Île-de-France" in the 12th century and quickly spreaded across Europe. Finally, it was replaced by Renaissance architecture in the 16th century.

I would like to start with a major example: Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris (cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris)

Gothic architecture steps all over art deco and art nouveau, IMO. It's amazing.

The epitome of gothic architecture, Duomo Cathedral, Milan

The Bad Doberan Minster (Bad Doberaner Münster) in Germany is a considerable example of the colourful Northern German Brick Gothic. It was part of a Cistercian abbey that was secularised due to the Reformation in the 16th century.

An example of the Brabantine Gothic is the Cathedral of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal) in Antwerp.

Beautiful, I love gothic architecture. I wish new buildings had this style, but it seems it would be too expensive.

BURGOS CATHEDRAL

Situated in the northern Spanish city of Burgos, along the Camino de Santiago route. The gothic spires reach more than 80 meters and were elevated during the XVI century.

This picture was taken by me during the last sunset.
