Steintor, Anklam

Miraculously it survived the city's destruction in the second world war.

I really love the mysticism of gothic architecture, especially the brick one. Wroclaw cathedral looks really gorgeous. BTW, the coat of arms seen everywhere in the cathedral, I guess it's the one used by the Wroclaw diocese? According to Google the black eagle stands for the duchy of Silesia, but I couldn't find anything on the fleur-de-lis?

The coat of arms belongs to Charles of Habsburg, (1590-1624), Archduke of Austria, Prince-bishop of Breslau and Brixen, Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights (1619).

The eagle was awarded to the Teutonic Order by emperor Frédéric II (1194-1250) and the fleur-de-lis by Saint-Louis (Louis IX of France, 1214-1270).

Apparently the coat of arms doesn't belong the emperor Charles, but to the Duchy of Nysa, which was ruled by the bishops of Wroclaw. Its coat of arms stands for the Silesian eagle and the city of Nysa which was the duchy's capital. Later on it became also the coat of arms of the Wroclaw diocese with Jacob von Salza (reign 1520-1539) being the first Wroclaw bishop to use offically use it.
