Moderators acting like dictators at the brazilian forum.

Moderator RRC just closed the largest thread at the entire Skyscrapercity because of TWO INDIVIDUALS who posted innapropriate messages. Instead of banning of suspending the people who did it, he takes his fury on the entire thread and the HUNDREDS/THOUSANDS of people who post there making it one of the largest/most viewed threads.

it was already said the overmoderation killed some forums of other countries/regions at SSC. Will the same happen with these unchecked mods?

third time. They are unprepared to deal with a thread with 21 thousand posts. Its as simple as that.

This MUST be evaluated urgently by the international community...
Simply pathetic what they did using ridiculous arguments to justify this attitude.

They obviously overreacted

Unfortunately the thread was closed because of the conduct of two or three people. For this post, i express my disagreement with this attitude, because a multitude of people who cooperate only with the correct progress of thread were hampered.

It's normal that in a thread with 20,000 views and dozens posts of daily some people end up not following the rules. But closing the thread is exaggerated.

We advice all the new participants for respect the rules, and we denounce the off-topics and abuses. And now we are being punished for that.

big thread, more problems, and consequently more work for the moderators . but it's normal. this one thread is more active than all of others about stadiums in Brazil.

please open the topic again.

not dozens, HUNDREDS of new posts per day. Obviously, a few will not follow the rules. (the mods wont allow discussion about Naming Rights, about the innauguration match of the stadium, etc, etc)

I agree with AcesHigh.
The vast majority of users are well-intentioned people. Punishments should be made directed to specific users, few users, not closing the entire thread, which hurts me and all users that seek to contribute to the thread.

I'm glad that this thread is created. I also disagree with the methods that the Brazilian moderation is acting, mostly in the "Arena do Grêmio Thread".

The topic of Gremio is enormous and involves a large number of individuals, which ends up creating discussions sometimes of all orders. But the overall quality of the informations is great.

I believe that the brazilian moderators sometimes acts arbitrarily, their messages sound like threats and ends trying to lead the discussion on the basis of fear.

As Aceshigh said, it would be so much easier to ban the responsible users than just closing the thread. This decision exclude hundreds of people from the discussion.

Good users and skycrappercity are the most affected by the lack of sensitivity of the moderators.

Thanks in advance.

Wow,

given that they locked the thread Arena Sorority exaggerated.

Most of the discussion was on fire and ARENA. Some people may have been exalted, but it was not a case of closing the thread a few days before the inauguration.

It was better to punish those who do not respect the rules .. so they learn more than hiding in the community.

There must be an individualization of behavior!!

...
Nossa,

Abs.

I transcribe here the email I just sent to the main SSC email. I hope the owners read and take a fair decision on this. My personal details were given on the email.

-----------

Hi, I'm writing to bring to your attention the tiranic and undemocratic way that one of the most popular threads in the whole of SSC (have a look at the number of posts and views) have been closed without any fair reason. The thread is this - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...8668&page=2118 -; the last post which ended with it was posted by RRC (one of the morators). The bottom line is, the brazilian forums are being dominated by tiranic moderators who know each other and decide to ban whoever they like. You may get banned for expressing a diverse opinion or simply for not being friends with the people who control the "system". The americans, I'm sure, are much more used to democracy and may find hard to understand how that can be, but I honestly tell you, It's a shame what is going on. I understand it would be difficult for a non-portuguese speaking person to get to verify all this, but please, do something about it. For instance, who put these people there for "moderation"? They are anything, but "moderators". More like dictators. I hope you have a look into this. SSC is a great forum and should have the same high level of discussion and debate in all regional forums, which at the moment is not happening with the brazilian section.
Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what goes on in the Brazilian forum as I don't speak Portuguese but I do know that there have been many complaints about the mods there. If multiple people are complaining it says something. The Brazilian forum leaders are severely corrupt.

As someone has said, strict/harsh mods can kill a forum.. I have seen it on other forums and it could easily happen on a SSC forum (if it hasn't already)

There's a lot of problem in the Brazilian forums caused by people who doesn't get that this is a forum about projects, constructions and architecture, only. But that also happens with other SSC forums.

So the general issue is that the mods can't handle the volume of problem from this threads, the volume of new people causing problems.... they end up intervening in a harsh way to reduce the stress on them.

Of course, wherever you have a group of people posting, there'll always be an percentage of people causing trouble, the larger the group, more problems you have. But economically speaking, I don't think this way of managing crisis reflect the best interest of the SSC.

Is SSC administration unhappy with this large volume of page-views it receives everyday from Brazil? Doesn't it increase the revenue of the site?

If so, then they need more people to manage the forums and need to set better ways to manage the problems with the newcomers without causing a disruption of the Brazilian forums.

PS: I'm a newcomer too so this is my biased perspective.

Aline, there was no "gremio arena forum". It was a topic, also called thread. The moderators are the moderators of the Projetos Subforum of the brazilian forum.
