erm, the brick arch in China didn't magically appear in the 1200s.
First spandrel bridge, 595 AD 707AD 704AD. Note the long flat bricks and archway at the bottom: ![]() There are others alot older of course (such as Jiaohe 108BC) originally made from mud brick. The long thin, flat bricks used in the Ming wall and similar to Tuscan style ones are found way before Marco Polo. These are from Min Wall at Fuzhou, 909 AD:
