Capital Hill, Canberra - designed by Burley-Griffin 1912.

Capital Hill as it stands, completed 1988 - note the flagpole mimics the Burley-Griffin design.

Soviet architect Георгий Павлович Гольц (George P. Goltz is his name using the latin alphabet according to Google translate but I have feeling that it does not work that great with names) 1954 draft for a municipality complex.

Reminds me of the Manhattan Municipal Building with that central arch, completed 12 years before this drawing.

Following similar theme, Stalin had several towers built some 20 years after. Check out the high-rise on Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow. Or the unbuilt Palace of Soviets.

Van Epen was indeed inspired by existing projects around the time. He also mentioned Frank Lloyd Wright's Broadacre City, as this tower was planned for the outskirts of Amsterdam. A tower with green spaces around its base.

He'd sure loved plants ... They even were supposed to grow all the way to the top of the building. (in the drawing resembled by the 'scribbles' at the sides of the structure.)

The unprecise and wild drawing style fits with the period of expressionist style buildings popping up in Amsterdam around the same time period.

^ Jeeez. Luckily they didn't succeed with that, it'd have been a crime to flatten Versailles. It lives from its excessive ornamentism and lush decorations.

Most radical proposal for the Royal Castle in Warsaw by Adam Idzkowski - fashionable neo-gothic style for the Castle and the Castle Square.
