Jefferson, OH

Jefferson is a village in northeast Ohio, and is the seat of Ashtabula County. The population is around 3,100.


Buildings on Chestnut Street. On the right is the Joshua Reed Giddings Law Office. The office was built in 1838. Giddings was a United States Representative from 1838 to 1859, and was a prominent abolitionist. The first draft of the first Republican Party platform was written here in 1856.



The International Order of Odd Fellows Hall, on Chestnut Street. The structure was built in 1890.



Buildings on Chestnut Street. The Jones Building, on the left, was built in 1906.



Buildings on Chestnut Street. The Freemason Lodge, on the left, was built in 1892.



The Ashtabula County Courthouse, on Jefferson Street at Chestnut Street. The courthouse was built in 1850.



The Ashtabula County Justice Center, on Jefferson Street. The new courthouse was built in 1960 and now houses most of the county's functions.



Lawyer's Row, along Jefferson Street near the county courthouse. The row of buildings, linked together with a boardwalk, was built in the early 1850s.



The Jefferson Village Hall, on Jefferson Street. The town hall was built in 1879.



The First Congregational Church of Christ, on Jefferson Street. The church was built in 1835, and is the oldest church in Ohio's Western Reserve.
