I really dont understand developments like these. Its slap bang in the middle of nowhere and with no public transport neither, not very sustainable.

Yes, a highway, exactly my point. Making your city dependant on car is not a very good idea.

Whats your point? Motorway is not public transport.

For a sustainable future you need to develop effective public transport network - underground, tram or bus. Motorway merely increases congestion and pollution.

The pic shows you that it's not in he middle of nowhere. But yeah, I don't think there is a proper public transport system yet.

Thats not the impression those renders give, but even so the development is essentially an island surrounded by motorways. And I dont think theres going to be a public transport system either. I'm amazed that in the age like this when we face climate change and dwindling resources we still build unsustainable stuff like this.

It is true, but erbil was kept underdeveloped for many years. During the time of saddam Hussein, erbil wasn't developed much. These developments only started after the liberation in 2003. There are now plans underway to create a proper tram system to connect all parts of the city, as well as a railway system to connect the cities of the Kurdistan region, however, this not something that can be built within a short period of time.

Also, there is a huge need for projects like these in iraq, there is still a shortage of housing there
