VANCOUVER | My Neighbourhood - Cambie Village & Environs
It's been a long time since I've had a photo thread but I had a free afternoon last Saturday and finally managed to get out with my camera.
Back in March I moved from downtown to a new apartment just across False Creek in the Cambie Village area. It's a great neighbourhood with a nice mix of green, relaxed residential streets and convenient urban amenities. The main retail strip along Cambie Street that anchors the neighbourhood has a sort of small town "Main Street" vibe. It's attractive and pleasant but otherwise lacks the urban funkiness of more trendy, youthful areas like Vancouver's actual Main Street nearby. But Main is a short walk away as is the increasingly more bustling and urban Broadway for those looking for a bit more excitement. With the addition of the Canada Line down Cambie 3 years ago, downtown is just a quick hop away as well. Anywho, onto the photos... My trek starts off on 16th Ave where there is a small eclectic commercial/retail pocket hidden amongst the residential streets... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Turning into one of the residential side streets I came across this random but awesome installation... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() From 16th Ave north (towards downtown) it's mostly apartment buildings, while south it quickly turns into predominantly detached housing... image hosted on flickr ![]() There's a noticeably large number of young families and pregnant women in the neighbourhood... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() There are a couple nice parks in the area... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() And Douglas Park... image hosted on flickr ![]() It's hard not to be constantly reminded that we live in a rainforest... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() One of my favourite "Vancouver Special" renos that I've seen... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Making my way over to Cambie Street... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() This just reopened as the "Soho Tea Room", a "Hong Kong/Taiwanese food & bubble tea" place... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Heading down the hill towards Broadway... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Hope you like skyline shots cause there's a lot more to come - there are a lot of great views to downtown in the area... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() The area is also home to City Hall... image hosted on flickr ![]() Looking down towards the Cambie Street Bridge and downtown... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Looking down Broadway... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Looking toward the Southeast False Creek (aka Olympic Village) neighbourhood... image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() The End

I didn't know they had Fat Burger in Canada.
Cambie Village looks nice, the more I see of Vancouver the more I like it (I've never been there). |

I love neighbourhood walks like this! Really gives us a feel of the architecture from the street level, as we spend so much time looking at skylines here. I'm also always amazed at how completely different the architectural styles are in our country from West to East.

Fantastic. A real flavour and taste of how eminently livable Vancouver is; with its leafy, quite British looking, suburbs, dovetailing into dense inner city; and then those wonderful mountains framing the scene. Just the right size for a city, IMO.

Thanks for the comments! I quite like the mix in the area. It is a nice balance of healthy urbanity and lush, low-key residential. Though when I think about it, much of Vancouver outside of downtown is like this. Areas like Commercial Drive, Kits, Kerrisdale, Main Street, and many others have a similar configuration... rows of quiet, green residential side streets anchored by busy retail strips, all tied together by fairly convenient and frequent transit. I just especially like the Cambie Village area for its centrality and the especially convenient Canada Line.

Beautiful pictures! It's nice to see the city from another perspective.
Are there any pictures from the mountain tops looking over Vancouver? |
