If Toronto Was Attacked by Terrorists

The previous episode of the show Flashpoint dramatically showed what it could be like if Toronto was attacked by terrorists. I think the show is amazing, and you should all take a look at it. This episode, part one of the season finale, really makes one wonder how Toronto would react to a terrorist attack. I strongly suggest you watch the episode.

It can be viewed here

I really like Flashpoint and am sad that it is ending ( at least I think it is).

On websites like the one you linked to, they always require that you download some random video player. I don't like doing that in case it is dodgy.

Yes, this will sadly be the final season. The episode I linked is part one of the two part finale. It really is horrific and amazingly produced.

I can't even imagine something like this happening in Toronto, however it is very possible. Even if one does not watch the show, I strongly suggest everyone tries to watch this episode.

I have uploaded some photos from the episode to show what Toronto could look like in the horrible case that a terrorist attack occurs:

Stop being so dramatic. We aren't Americans.

However, this could really be a true scenario:

Quote:
Saad Khalid, A man living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, has pleaded guilty to participating in a plot to bomb the C.N. Tower, The Toronto Stock Exchange, CSIS offices, and a military base among others.

Khalid belonged to a supposed terrorist organization in Toronto called The Toronto 18. In 2006 members of the Toronto 18 were arrested, and charged with numerous terrorism related offenses.

Many of the accused admitted to undergoing training in a terrorist training camp in 2005.
Khalid's hearing will be on June 22, where there will be a full week of related evidence that will be brought to attention.
Thankfully they were caught. But the episode shows what it could be like.

Well at least they only blew up the Trump Tower. I can live with that.

The episode was filmed 3 years ago and they're just showing it now? That above photo is old, you can still see Bay Adelaide Centre under construction. I guess maybe they've added CGI to their stock footage of downtown.

I don't worry about terrorism or buy into the paranoia that seems to engulf our neighbours to the south. I lived my first 11 years in a city that was continually under threat of IRA bombing and you learn to simply 'keep calm and carry on'. The US approach is ridiculous.

We stayed away from Heathrow airport the day there was a bomb threat and instinctually stay away from unattended packages on the sidewalk, stores, restaurants, etc. It just becomes part of your daily ritual and you think nothing of it after awhile.

If Toronto suffered a major attack it would be terrible, but you can't allow a siege mentality to take hold. You pick up the pieces, trust your support/security services, and re-build. Hysteria? Pointless.

The episode was filmed this year, but I guess their skyline footage is older.

No one said we needed to by hysteric or paranoid. However, I thought it was very interesting to see this episode and look at what it could be like if god forbid something did happen.

It was filmed this spring - I remember seeing it being filmed outside the ACC walking home from work one evening

Okay, I figured that. It was just that when I was watching the episode, all the aerial shots were outdated, so I guess they were taken years ago and they added the smoke CGI after.

According to the show, it must the Asians as it seems they were all warned before hand not to be in Downtown Toronto.

All of those CGI shots were probably taken during a week or two and just used as stock. They're not going to go through the expense of hiring a helicopter and film crew to make updated shots of the city when 99% of the viewers won't even notice.

I remember that ACC film shoot, but I didn't see that segment in the episode. The shoot took most of the day. In the morning they were shooting entering the ACC. In the afternoon they were shooting someone getting loaded into an ambulance on Bremner in front of the Telus Building.

I did come across the film shoot of the explosion at the Health & Welfare Office on Scott St. this summer. The funny thing is that they used two sides of the same building for two different scene locations!

The 88 Scott building's Wellington St. side was the 911 call centre while the Scott St. side was the Health & Welfare explosion aftermath. I had a friend who also came across the Scott St. shooting, snapped a photo and posted it to Facebook. People thought there was an actual attack on Toronto!
