Really dumb question here ......

In this picture ..... why does that car ( yes i dont know the vehicle name) ... why it it towing the plane out to the runway? I know that planes get pushed back ..... but why is the plane being towed that far?

My guess is saving fuel for a long distance flight?

If it's towed, chance is the airplane is empty and it is either towed between the terminal to hangar or vica versa.
The only time where fully laden passenger plane towed is when the plane is incapable of moving.

Wow... more 77Ls to its existing 10 on the fleet, eh? I hope those will have the newest F class seats found on the A380 as well, if not even better. Maybe an even better J cabin would be great as well, if not WiFi capability on board.

What's the difference between the F Class suites on EK's A380s and the 777s? It'll be great if the A380 J Class made its way to these birds though.

Will Etihad do a bacon sandwich for that price? I didn't think so.

tullamarine I don't think Etihad (or Emirates for that matter) will do a bacon sandwich at any price!!! Qantas customers on Sydney/Melbourne-London lost bacon from the breakfast menu following the Emirates alliance.

BaconButty I finally understand the true horrors of globalization.

I'm a bit surprised with this. Will we see the revival of short-body Boeing 777 production line soon?

Emirates may buy longest-range Boeing 777-200LR jets

BUSINESS JOURNAL: ANTHONY BOLANTE

Boeing's Everett assembly line will get a new lease on life if Emirates buys up to 15 of… more

Boeing (NYSE: BA) may be getting an order for up to 15 of the ultra-long-range 777-200LR jetliners, a boost in the company’s effort to keep the Everett line going at full rate until the 777X is in full production.

The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday reported that Emirates Airlines President Tim Clark said a potential order is “under the microscope.”

Clark spoke at a side interview at the International Air Transport Association’s annual meeting, June 7 through June 9, in Miami.

Such an order would have particular significance because Emirates is already is the largest operator of 777s.

Right now the Dubai-based carrier operates 144 of the current version of the 777 jet, and has another 49 on order, according to the Journal.

Emirates launched the 777X in 2014 with an order for 150 of the newly designed plane, worth $5.6 billion.

Emirates is significant because its one of the world’s largest airlines, operating a global network of connecting flights feeding out of its hub in Dubai. Its network depends on two long-range wide body aircraft: Twin-engine Boeing 777s, and much-larger four-engine Airbus A380s.

If Emirates does order the jets, they’ll likely be enticed by the many tweaks Boeing is implementing on the classic model,as it tries to attract orders before the 777X is in full production.

Boeing has said it needs to sell 50 to 60 aircraft yearly to maintain the current rate of 8.3 monthly, or about 100 a year until the plane is fully replaced by the 777X.

So far this year Boeing has sold 25 of the classic models.

An order for Boeing 777-200LRs would be notable because it’s the world’s longest-range commercial aircraft, able to carry 266 people 9,400 nautical miles, in Emirates configuration. Emirates last ordered the model in 2005.

The larger and more popular 777-300ER is more limited in range, at about 7,800 miles.

The new tweaks include fuel burn efficiencies, as well as interior changes allowing up to 14 extra seats, for a total 5 percent gain in per-seat fuel cost, said 777 Program Manager Elizabeth Lund, at a pre-Paris Air Show briefing June 1.

“This is a really neat bridge airplane,” she said. “As you look at bridging from today’s ER to enhanced ER, it creates a great bridge in transition to 777X.”

Boeing booked a new order for 10 777's by an unidentified customer last week.

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/#/orders-deliveries

Is this already Emirates buying more 777-200LRs? There was also a cancellation of 15 787s, it might be linked to this new order. Boeing hasn't tweeted about it yet, it might reveal which model was ordered.

It's being reported that it's a top up order for 10 777Xs
https://twitter.com/jonostrower/stat...95579587575810

If the 787 cancellation is related it can only be ANA or Etihad.

My bet is ANA. Etihad needs the 787 more than the need for more 777s. Etihad is not Emirates who can use a T7 on pretty much every route and still make a boat load of money. The 787 could allow Etihad to make more money on certain long haul markets.

If it's Etihad they still have 53 787s on order, more then enough for their instant needs. And they are known for cancelling and reordering new planes, if they need these 787s they will simply reorder them. These 777X will only be delivered after 2020 when their 1st order is delivered, this conversion would not be a short term thing, both for the cancellation and the new order.

I think ANA needs their 787s even more as they will be replacing their older 767s and domestic 777-200s which are up to 10 years older then the oldest widebody in Etihads fleet. They also placed a top-up order just 3 months ago, this isn't their order strategy.

We might get some more info next week if something is announced at the Paris Airshow, otherwise we will see what has happened in the monthly order update on 07/02 (or maybe a week later).

It's also still not clear if the cancellation have anything to do with each other, both airlines could have placed the order without cancelling any 787.

I think Etihad placed another order for 15 787s after Air Berlin's order cancelation. And that order for 15 787s was canceled, if 777X order is connected to 787s cancelation.

I believe Emirates wants the 777-200LR's for really long routes from Dubai such as various destinations in South America and non-stop all the way to New Zealand.
