Turkish Airlines bought 3 Boeing 777-300ERs from Kenya Airways. Should arrive to AMS for repaint soon.

But from early 2014 the new deliveries came without this device as Boeing had implemented new software that would prevent tail strikes altogether. That's the electronic tail skid, software instead of an actual tail skid.
Interesting, could it be switched off?

If Cpt. van Zanten had this electronic tale skid on his B747 more people had died?

If Cpt. van Zanten had followed the rules, no one had died, with or without a tale skid.

I noticed the other day while i was in HKG waiting for my flight back to the USA and i saw Saudi Arabian Cargo plane and it was the Boeing 777F. I was wondering how long have they been operating the 777F?

They took delivery of their first 777F at the end of march 2015 followed by 3 more in 2015.

They took delivery of these 4 as an unidentified customer according to Boeing's order book. They placed this order in January 2014.

Thanks Momo1435! It was a nice surprise to see them instead of the 747s they send to HKG on the cargo runs.

I would love to see them here in Amsterdam as well, but we only get the 747s that Air Atlanta Icelandic is operating for them since they retired their MD-11s some years ago.

I understand TK have probably picked up a bargain but from logistics perspective it's got to be a costly exercise.

Anyhow congratulations TK

Boeing Starts Off New Year With an Old Plane:
First order report of the new year shows China leading the way

Quote:
Boeing says its new 777X widebody jetliner, expected to begin production in 2018 and enter service in 2020, "will be the largest and most efficient twin-engine jet in the world, unmatched in every aspect of performance."

A competitor to Airbus' A350, 777X could help Boeing to reverse a three-year trend of second-place finishes to its rival. And yet, while the new 777X isn't exactly "bombing" as a product, it's not necessarily setting fire to the tarmac, either.

Last year, Boeing reported that orders for its "original recipe" 777 airliner outsold orders for the upgraded 777X nearly 2-to-1, with 38 orders for the former recorded over the course of the year -- versus just 20 orders for 777Xes. Now, here in the early innings of 2016, it's already looking like last year's news may be this year's, too.

Nothing more than doing do a complete C check on an airplane. Maybe be a little more expensive but not too bad.

And these 777 are still young, delivered in late 2013 and 2014. Kenya Airways also didn't use them then intensively in the 2 year they were active.

Didn't even know Kenya were getting rid of their 3 -300s , I thought they were only getting rid of the 4 - 200 variants.

They are going all 787 for their long haul fleet. Their growth ambitions where to big, especially after the large terrorist attacks in Kenya the last couple of years. The 787s turned out not just to be the best aircraft economically for their needs but also more then enough capacity for their current network.

Yeah, it's just pity that Garuda never sent their Boeing 777 to Australia at the moment.
You know when Garuda planned to return back to London, they initially want to serve the Kangaroo route where the route would have been like LHR-CGK-SYD/MEL with Boeing 777.
But their plan to fly non stop on CGK-LHR route was scrapped upon realizing that CGK runway couldn't accommodate fully loaded Boeing 777-300ER
