I really wonder are Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways interested in a 777-10X model. I think the 777-9--which has the same pax/cargo capacity as the 747-400 but with 7,600 nm range now but could be increased to over 8,000 nm with a higher MTOW and uprated GE9x engines--would be perfect for the ME3 airlines, since it appears that in a number of cases they're not using the A380-800 to its full capacity on many routes.

The 777-10X will be attractive to the few airlines that can fill 400+ seats without having to reduce fares too much. It will have the lowest operating cost per seat mile and very good payload/range performance. It's only real disadvantage will be its huge size.

Boeing should have held 777-10x orders over for Farnborough. If indeed there are any.

A 787-10 order from Emirates would be equally good news for them.

I know it has been discussed earlier but what is the logic behind such bland liveries esp on the 777's?

Look at China Eastern's!! its literally white...I mean atleast they could have done up the tail...

The 777-9 already has a length of 76.7 m, so Boeing only has 3.3 m to build a stretched version if they want to remain within the limits set by an ICAO code F box (80mx80m).

3.3m is less than half the difference between the lengths of the 777-8 (69.5m) and 777-9 (76.7m). The maximum number of seats for the 777-8 is 375, while for the 777-9 is 425. So a 777-10 could have up to 450 seats in two classes.

Singapore Airlines and Korean Air operate A380s with less than 450 seats, but those have 3- and 4-class seating. Only Emirates operates the A380 with two-class seating in a configuration with 615 seats.

So comparing the seating capacity of the A380 and 777-10 under similar conditions the latter still comes 165 seats short. Enough to put more pressure in Airbus direction, but far from being an A380 killer.

Agree, China Eastern could have left some stripes on the body or changed the font to something more appealing.

I do prefer it to Swiss though which looks equally as bland.

Boeing's policy has always been to allow the customer to choose the date of the announcement. On the other hand, Airbus negotiates the announcement date as part of the deal.

It not capacity matching that will kill the A380. What will kill the A380 is an alternative that has the same or lower cost per seat mile in a smaller package. The large size of the A380 is a disadvantage. It's advantage (now mostly in the past) is lower seat mile costs. Larger capacity drives down revenue per seat mile because an airline must of course lower fares to sell more tickets.

Touchscreens come to 777X flight deck

Quote:
Boeing’s innovation in the flight deck continues, with the introduction of touchscreens in the 777X forward displays; a first in the air transport industry.

With touchscreens being used on smarts devices by people around the world every day, and pilots already bringing tablets into the flight deck, making the 777X even more intuitive and easy for pilots is a logical next step.

“We want to design a flight deck that pilots are going to be familiar with and that will provide the best interaction experience for them,” said Mark Nikolic, Boeing Flight Deck Human Factors Engineer.

The 777X’s new technologies will allow pilots to work more efficiently while maintaining significant operational commonality with today’s 777.

Boeing has tested touchscreen technology on flight decks in simulators for the last five years and in 2014, used the ecoDemonstrator flying testbed to give pilots real-time flight experience with touch technology in the forward displays.

“We find that touchscreens perform as well as or better than current devices in the flight deck for interacting with the displays,” said Brian Gilbert, Boeing Flight Deck Integration Lead.

Boeing requirements for touch capability include bezel features designed to provide bracing and added stability in turbulence, and pilots can also interact with displays with rotary cursor controls.

Boeing’s 777X flight deck hardware is capable of supporting multiple touch points. This means two pilots can simultaneously interact with their half of the lower display.

with the capacity up to 450 seats with 2 classes so i can't imagine the length of 777-10X. So the length may be longer than 90m ??

Maybe not at this show, but at a later time. If, however, Emirates or one of the major 777 operators will get that aircraft through major commitments, it will be an interesting development, especially if they do it in their home soil like Dubai, Singapore, or Le Bourget. And why do you seem to be happy when no orders will take place? That seems strange when the 777X program is underway...
