United has officially changed the registration on their 1st 2 777-300ER's. Both came out of paint wearing N58031 & N59032.

Have since returned to paint to be corrected to N2331U and N2332U respectively.

Boeing 777-300ER in Continental livery (yes that livery originally belongs to Continental, prior to takeover by United ) looks very pretty.
The other type of planes that looked great in that livery in my opinion was the DC-10

The future of airplane manufacturing:

At Boeing's 777X wing factory, robots get big jobs

December 9, 2016 by Dominic Gates, The Seattle Times

Quote:
As the first 110-footlong wing skin panel for Boeing's new 777X jet moved slowly across a mammoth new factory building one recent morning, a small crew walked alongside, watching for any possibility of an expensive collision.

The "spotters" escorted the panel's bright-orange transport platform as it followed invisible tracks embedded in the concrete floor and slid with a tight fit into the big cylindrical autoclave where the part would bake to hardness.

Until the automated system for moving these big wing parts is proved, "we do have four people watching it," said Darrell Chic, acting director of 777X wing fabrication. "But the intent is to work our way to autonomous and allow the navigation system to do its thing."

Autonomous. Not needing any humans to guide it.

The 777X Composite Wing Center in the Seattle-area city of Everett, Boeing's latest venture in advanced manufacturing, marks a significant step toward a future in which much of an aircraft factory's work is done by automated machines and robots.

BOEING | 777 News & Discussion

IranAir signs a deal for 80 airplanes (50 737's & 30 777's)

IranAir said it signed a deal on Sunday to buy 80 passenger planes from U.S. aircraft maker Boeing (BA.N), state news agency IRNA reported, in the biggest U.S.-Iran deal since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The agency quoted Farhad Parvaresh, the chairman of Iran's flag carrier, as saying that the 10-year deal included 50 Boeing 737 aircraft and 30 777 planes.

Boeing said in June it had signed a tentative agreement to sell 100 jets to IranAir after Iranian statements about the deal.

A recent graphic by the SCMP (scmp.com)

Since publication both Cathay and BA announced they would go 10 abreast.

Singapore are holding to 9 abreast. Turkish are in trouble now and may need to announce 10 abreast to keep their investors happy. Very few operators left in the 9 across space globally now.

The 15 77Ws for Iran are very good news for Boeing. If China Southern also firms up a top-up order for 10 77W the 2016 net order total will be 42. Which is on the bottom end of the number of orders which Boeing needs to keep the 777 going at a decent production rate.

That will help IranAir to streamline their fleet and reduce operational cost. As they currently have a rather colorful variety of airplanes.

Garuda is one of them. I don't think they would revert to 10-abreast as it would require them to purchase new economic class seat They currently using the same type of economic class seats for almost all type of airplanes in their fleet (the CRJ1000 and ATR72 uses different type of seat).
Some of my friend who had flown with Garuda's Boeing 777 said that its seating feel no different than those used in A330 or Boeing 737

Boeing 777 production rate will be trimmed to 5 aircraft per month in August 2017, and just 3.5 aircraft per month in 2018.

Goldman predicts production at 2 a month by 2019 ( even with the Iran Order)

Ostrower notes.

http://money.cnn.com/2016/12/12/news...d=hp-stack-dom

Quote:
Today, Boeing builds 100 777 airliners each year and that will drop to pace of 60 annually, or five each month, starting in August. It previously announced plans last year to cut to just seven per month next year, as it struggled to secure enough orders.

"Several ongoing twin-aisle campaigns...haven't concluded in time to keep the rate steady," wrote Elizabeth Lund, Boeing's 777 program vice president.

......Boeing's deal with Iran was not enough to prevent the latest cut, said Lund, but it did keep the rate from going lower.
Nor can they suddenly scale up in 2018 and 2019 , the 777X prototypes will slow the line in those years.

Nor can they suddenly scale up in 2018 and 2019 , the 777X prototypes will slow the line in those years.

They are using the old 787 surge line to build the 777x, therefore will have no impact on production flow for the current 777 production.

And now it sounds like United Airlines has set up its first B777-300ER flights, both out of San Francisco, from summer next year:

- 6x weekly to Newark
- Daily to Hong Kong

Let me pull up the full details since I saw it on Airline Route. And I hope this aircraft will not only replace the B744, but also the oldest B772ER aircraft as well.
