That just means the airline has gained full membership to the alliance, and I think it is a requirement for all its aircraft operated by the airline (in this case, Garuda Indonesia) to have the alliance name placed next to the cockpit windows as part of its affiliation.

I mean, why do airlines put stuff, in Garuda's case, the Indonesian flag where the alliance logo will exactly be placed.

Garuda Indonesia places the Indonesian flag on the cockpit door because it is the flag carrier of Indonesia, and it is fully owned by the Indonesian government. A similar thing can be observed for Singapore Airlines too and Japan Airlines...

It's simply their current livery, they will just change it when they will actually join SkyTeam. It's just a matter of replacing stickers, it won't be a complete new paint job.

I was told that it is now on the way to Indonesia. That means the plane arrived a few weeks earlier than planned.

Didnt know that KLM started to use a different font for the 'ASIA' part in their ASIA livery. Probably only on the new 777 klm asias.

AFAIK this 777-300ER is the only KLM plane with this font. I'm pretty sure the 200s use the 'old' font.

Do they still have to use "Asia" when flying to Taiwan?

KLM has been the only airline that have kept it's Asia labels, even after it wasn't strictly necessary anymore. When they flew to Taiwan via Bangkok they also used non KLM Asia aircraft on those flights. So basically it was just marketing, just to show that they have a good presence in Asia. Or they just kept the KLM Asia company for tax reasons.

But after KLM started to fly directly to Taiwan, overflying Mainland China on the route it became actual again. China now accepts that airlines fly to both Taiwan and mainland China, but it does not accept those airlines using Chinese airspace for those flights. So KLM brought back the old compromise to make these flights possible again. KLM Asia is officially a company registered in Taiwan, so it's not the main KLM that operates these flights. In practice it's all the same KLM ofcourse, and KLM uses the KLM Asia planes on all different kind of flights, as can be seen by the picture of the 777 in Kuala Lumpur.

Other European airlines don't fly to Taiwan, so they won't have to use this trick. Any countries from other regions can fly to Taiwan without going through Chinese airspace. But there aren't to many non Asian airlines who serve Taiwan, it's only KLM and Delta but they only have a flight to their hub in Tokyo. But in early 2014 United will restart their San Fransisco - Taipei route, so maybe more airlines will follow.
