Reminds me of the BA 777 accident at LHR a few years back but not as dramatic of a crash.

There are 291 passengers on board, with only 12 passengers inflicting minor injuries. No reports of deaths. If you are in the US, you can listen to live radio from CBS here

Latest on Asiana 214: 61 injuries (mostly minor), 2 fatalities. So far, a minimum number of details have been released.

It is the first crash causing fatalities for a Boeing 777.

Number of commercial flight crashes causing fatalities since 2001:
  1. Boeing: 42
  2. Antonov: 15
  3. Tupolev: 13
  4. McDonell-Douglas: 12
  5. Airbus: 11
  6. de Havilland-Canada: 6
    Fokker: 6
    Bombardier: 6
    ATR: 6

Oh wow. I didn't know that there were quite a lot of Boeing aircraft that have fatalities involved.

Of all manufacturers, Boeing has the most planes which are currently in service. And many older ones too.

The majority of crashes involve aging aircrafts operating in poorer countries, which explains why we still see McDonell-Douglas or de Havilland in the list. Crashes such as the one of Asiana are a minority.

Sixty are still unaccounted for. Kinda hope they are still alive but the worse is still possible. Pray for the families affected by this accident.

Very sad but true!

Btw, I'm very disappointed by Garuda's choice of color for its business and economy class seats (At least First is okay). The seat itself is great (all 3 classes) but I expected something very different in terms of color for such a colorful and tropical country.

Actually I was expecting Batik color on its seats.

So far, the CEO of Asiana Airlines has ruled out mechanical or engine problems in the crash.
Some witnesses, as well as survivors of the crash, have said that the plane seem to be flying to low, and apparently the tail hit the ground.
The black box has been recovered and it is already in Washington to be analized.

Most likely scenario was that the pilots messed up since they were flying visual and with no ILS, cause it was down on that runway.

i thought only the GS (and PAPI) were out, the LOC was working right?? still weird how the plane was right off of centerline...

maybe also the fact that it was a 10 hour flight, sunny skies, and blue waters just before the runway messed with the pilots' depth perception??
