Seattle Times has an article about the future production of the 777X

Quote:
Boeing secretly testing new automation for 777X

Inside a boat warehouse in Anacortes, Boeing is quietly setting up tests of new advanced automation methods for building its soon-to-be-launched 777X jet. Everett has a detailed plan to build the entire jet. Another option being studied is to have sections built in Japan.

At a secret facility in Anacortes, more than 40 miles north of Boeing’s widebody-jet plant in Everett, a small group of engineers next month will begin testing advanced automation methods for building the soon-to-be-launched 777X jet.

The hush-hush project reveals Boeing intends to dramatically change the way the plane’s metal hull is built, reducing manual labor on that task while ramping up the overall production rate.

“We’re going to build the fuselage differently than we do now,” said a senior Boeing engineer familiar with details of the plan. “We’re going to introduce a whole lot of automation.”

Meanwhile, in a nerve-wracking process that could either boost or bust future manufacturing in the Puget Sound region, Boeing is still weighing various plans for where to put 777X manufacturing — including Everett, alternative company facilities and non-Boeing sites.

Fall launch for 777X likely

Boeing is expected to formally launch the 777X program this fall, which will trigger a huge development program employing thousands of engineers in Everett.

Just in time for the Dubai airshow. Emirates, Qatar and Eithad can all place orders! LOL! I like the news for more jobs being created in Everett.

Lufthansa has set up a special website for the 777F
http://lufthansa-cargo.com/en_de/mai...y/boeing-777f/

The 1st one is due in October, if it's not already loaded into the assembly line it should be pretty soon.

Yeah, these shots were taken back in 2010 when I was on MEL-JNB going to the World Cup in South Africa. I believe we were over Madagascar at this time.

This is VP-CAL, a 777-200LR BBJ that was delivered to the Saudi Arabian company Aviation Link in 2010. (Boeing press release)

It's unclear if the Cameroon government has permanently acquired this plane, or that they just hired the plane for the occasion.

It's kinda a big plane for a government of a country which national airline only has 3 planes (2 737s and a 767). Although Camair-Co is currently looking to add a regular 777 to replace their 767. It should not be too hard to find a nice 777-200ER to lease somewhere. Although the lease price and operation costs will still be significantly higher then with a 767. For example, aftermarket spare parts for the 777 remain very expensive because too few are being scrapped. It has to be seen if they can make it work.

I thought it seemed like a bit of overkill for Cameroon government.
