I would bet my money on the 777 for reaching the 2,000 first. With the 200 orders pending it will already be 1,700, that's a lot for the 787 to catch up to. Unless the 777 sales slow down significantly after this 1st rush for the 777X, but that's very unlikely.

777: 1,519

787: 1,012
707: 1,010 (including the 720, excluding the KC-135)
717: 155
(Red = terminated programs)
By my calculations that adds up to 20,514 planes. Plus numerous customers have not firmed up their 737MAX orders. The 777X program is keeping the 777 strong and could easily sell 2,000 planes as more customers place orders and Boeing figures out the 777X mess with its unions. Plus Transaero might firm up their order for four 747-8Is.

It is unlikely the 777X program will slow down. It has nothing else to do but go up and it will. Time will tell.

Considering the B777 is by far my favourite of all I believe it'll reach 2,000 with ease.

Well, the 777X is still count as 777 nevertheless. So the sales of 777X is still part of 777 sales

The B777X or B777-9 as Boeing have officially called it is the next generation / variant. 😉

True. I totally missed those 200 orders.

Here's an aircraft that sports a Winter Olympics theme...

Japan Airlines B777-300, "Winter Olympics 2014: Mao Asada, figure skater" (reg. JA8942)
