Part 6: a rare peek into the cockpit, worth waiting around 40 minutes in line for.

Back to Business Class again.

With the 777X coming in 2020 the current backlog of the "classic" 777s will fill the production line until 2017. There are about 300 open production slots which Boeing still needs to find customers for.

Part of this gap could be filled, or better not filled by reducing the production rate. But Boeing will be looking to sell more classic 777s before they will slow down the output, profiting from the high rate, mature & low cost product line. Even when they give large discounts to the customers of these end of the line delivery slots.

Flightglobal and Leehamnews recently posted some articles/analysis on this issue.

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...e-777s-395459/
http://leehamnews.com/2014/02/03/fil...at-three-oems/

Flightglobal reports that Lufthansa is very interested in topping up their current order for 5 777Fs. They still have enough MD-11s to replace before the end of the decade, it will be interesting for them to get some more 777Fs with reduced prices.

There will also be more combined orders, airlines that order the 777X or 787 that will also get a big discount on some more classic 777s. This should already happen with the 777X orders for Emirates and Qatar, both still have outstanding 777-300ER options that will most likely be converted with a discount when they firm up their jointly negotiated 777X orders.

As for the futher of the 777 Classics after the 777X, there's no 777X freighter announced yet. Boeing should be able to keep it in production as long as there are orders. It's also possible that Boeing will develop a 777 military tanker as a replacement for the KC-10 (the tanker variant of the DC-10), just like the KC-46 tanker program keeps the 767 alive.

I was about to post this image

I'm curious to know how often are these remote bays utilised for disembarking & boarding flights? With the additional bays at TBIT now open hopefully this eliminates the need to use these bays.

Add Ethiopian Airlines and BA to the list of possible customers. There is an article on yahoo saying they are interested in buy up to ten 777X and BA is interested to replace some of their 747s.

What's the point of having boarding bridges and a terminal if passengers are transferred by bus?
