It's hard to believe if it's a Lufthansa Boeing 777

Not a shock with the cancellation of the a350 order (which was a little surprising), be interested to see if its more 777-8s which scale more closely to the a350s, in capacity or more 777-9s which would be way more efficient if they can fill that many 400 seaters.

Nope. I think EK will just firm up the 777X order and may just buy maybe 10-15 more 777-9's and 8-10 more 777-8's.

They have axed the 787 / 747-8 style engine nacalles, new noise reduction technology will make the engines look traditional again. The wingspan is also growing by 2 ft. to 235.5 ft. is done by widening the wingtips, when they are folded up the wingspan will still be the same as a 777-300ER.
So then how is the 777x better than that 200 and 300 series? Is it any faster or has less drag?

Since all I'm understanding is that it will have a little better fuel efficiency and more aerodynamic wings. But that does not seem like much of a difference from the 200 and 300 series of 777s.

The 777-8X will be bigger then the 777-200LR and the 777-9X will be bigger then the 777-300ER. The 777-9X is marketed as having a 21% fuel burn per seat advantage over the 777-300ER it's much better then just a slight improvement.

The biggest difference is made by the new engines, they are responsible for a large part of this improvement.

Speed is not really an issue nowadays, today's planes don't go faster then the Boeing 707 in the 1950s.
