China Eastern's first 777-300ER

If you look closely, you can see the new (still not officially revealed) China Eastern logo on the sticker on the aircraft.

what huge engine....why doesn't airbus have one like that?
Dumb question:

Could they make the boeing 747 a 2 engine plane? Based on this picture?

(I know the plane is just testing engines but it might be possible one day)

technically, the GE 90 is more powerful than 4 Pratt & Whitney JT9D... I think( and I hope) Boeing will build the Y3, a big plane derived from the 747 and the 777, with only 2 big engines

Caught this on my flight from LHR to KUL. A TG 777. Never in my life seeing an aircraft flying that near to each other.

That's correct, JAL offers WiFi on on their 777-300ERs.

A 777-300ER is considerably heavier then the 747SP in the picture, it's no problem to power such a small 747 with 2 current day 777 engines.

As for a 747-8I sized plane with 2 engines, if enough weight can be saved by making the fuselage out of composite materials it should be possible with a next generation of engines after a couple of 10% efficiency jumps.

I agree that those engines couldnt support the 8i .....but years down the line they might be able to pull that off.

A boeing 777 stops in my hometown airport! I know this isnt a big deal to some. But at the Buffalo Niagara International airport its a big deal. We NEVER see planes like this! Only time we see such big planes are when:

Air Force One is in town
Bills games (NFL teams fly mostly boeing 767s)
and once 747 was used to take the Chargers from Buffalo to London.

So a boeing 777 is a RARE site to see!

That's the privilege of living in a small town - lower excitement bar. People who sneer about that are actually jealous because they already got bored by A380)

Another case of the 777-300ER replacing the 747.

Quote:
Japan chooses Boeing 777-300ER as government’s official jet

The government on Tuesday chose two Boeing 777-300ERs as its next official jets, to go into service starting in fiscal 2019.

ANA Holdings Inc., the parent of All Nippon Airways, was selected as the maintenance service provider for the aircraft.

The new jets will replace the current government aircraft, two Boeing 747-400s, that will be retired at the end of fiscal 2018.

ANA Holdings and Japan Airlines proposed that the government introduce the 777-300ER as its next jet and bid to offer maintenance services for the aircraft. After examining the bids from the two rival firms, the government chose ANA Holdings over JAL.

Maintenance services for the current 747-400 jets are provided by JAL.
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/201.../#.U-uT3GORabL

Another interesting part of this news is the decision to switch from JAL to ANA in terms of maintenance. JAL is the former state airline while ANA has always been the private. After JAL bankruptcy a couple of years ago it has been overtaken by ANA as the biggest Japanese carrier and not just in the domestic market. There will also be more speculation about the preferences of the Japanese politics. ANA was already awarded the most international slots at Haneda airport. They claimed that they won these slots because JAL was already saved by the government during the bankruptcy. But it's no secret that the Japanese government favours Boeing over Airbus because of the all the investments Boeing has made in the Japanese economy over the years. Therefore some insiders think that the government is punishing JAL for choosing the A350 over the 777 in their last wide body order. Of course this is just speculation, but since this kind of dealings is not uncommon in Japanese politics it's not rejected as nonsense straight away. And since it will never come out if it's actually true it will always remain speculation.
