I think green is some kind of protective plastic layer being put on the nose section and tail fin leading edge before testing and removed just before primer coating and painting.

Here's a bonus... from SFO:

American Airlines B777-200ER, new livery (N776AN)

IMG_2951 by anthonynachor, on Flickr

SFO does not usually get to see the B777 with American... this flight was originally bound for Shanghai-Pu Dong from LAX, but for some reason, it was routed to SFO first before continuing on to PVG the following day. Maybe AA should consider building a base at SFO and develop a flight network out of it... But, do you think Delta would be a better airline to develop routes out of SFO further?

Which aircraft was the first to feature personal entertainment systems (as opposed to the overhead aisle video screens of the 747-400) -was it the 777-200ER?

I believe the 747 got it first. I remember even seeing it on a Cathay 742 in 1996.

The first one was 742 with Northwest Airlines in 1988.

This is what I mean by personal entertainment:

As opposed to the overhead entertainment system of the 1990s:

Northwest was the 1st in 1988 with PTVs on a 747-200, but only as a trail. Virgin Atlantic followed in 1989 on their 747-200s in business class, in 1991 they had installed it on all classes on their complete fleet.

In other words, the PTV system predates the 1st 777 delivery in 1995.

These systems are not aircraft specific anyway, it was not introduced as something new at the launch of a completely new aircraft.

When I saw the Boeing 777 prototype during Indonesian Air Show in 1996, I was really surprised to see that all seats in all classes of the plane feature PTV.

Back then I dreamed of traveling with one, and it did materialize when I flew with Malaysia Airlines' Boeing 777 from Kuala Lumpur to Zurich in 1999

I can only imagine that the whale livery would have looked great on their Boeing 747-400 or even MD-11. It's just pity that both types are on their way out (or already retired for MD-11).

You're lucky. The PH-BFT (B74E) is at the moment for maintenance at Subang airport, Malaysia. There at the line this photo was taken. Look for the dark blue line on the left side from the picture.
