PROJECT DETAILS

Location: 42B, Jawaharlal Nehru Road (Chowringhee Road)
Category: Residential (Villas in the sky)
Developers: Consortium of four realty groups (Mani Group, Diamond Group, Sattva Group & Alcove Realty)
Principal Architect: Hafeez Contractor, India.
Foundation Design: Callison, USA.
Launched: The project was soft launched in August 2012. Formal launch scheduled for Mar 2013, once foundation is complete.
Current Status: Pilling/foundation work in progress. Estimated completion of project 2015-16.

U can follow this project also at:
The 42

Project Overview
  • The city's maiden skyscraper is finally underway. Located on the venerable Chowringhee, the highrise boulevard that shaped Kolkata's distinct skyline, the super-structure is a super-luxury residential project.
  • The 42 will be 62 stories tall, housing 58 bungalow apartments stacked one over the other. The first four stories will make up the lobby and three service floors. There will be a six-level car park for 350 cars and each apartment will get six parking slots.
  • Each floor will house one lavish apartment - the option of fully-furnished bungalows in the sky.
  • While the building will be a neck-wringer for pedestrians measuring it up from street level, it is a huge engineering and technology challenge given the soft alluvial soil and the scale of construction.
  • Foundation piling began two-and-a-half months ago as per specifications provided by structural and civil engineers at Jadavpur University and IIT-Mumbai. Callison Architects of the US is providing the foundation design. ITD Cementation that is doing the 55-metre piling work will do the foundation as well.

Yeah, sorry, I agree- this is a pretty tacky design. The cladding and outside details clash horribly with the shape.

Right. I don't disagree with you. Not a fan of the design myself. Awaiting some update on the design modification, there is a possibility. BTW, this design was chosen among these following options.

I

II

III

IV (Chosen)

I can't really say I'm much of a fan of the design either. It's very prominent location directly at the Maidan makes it even worse.

Mayabious Art is renowned for creating first look renders & graphical representation for many projects in India. A recent creation in their website shows a new different render of The 42.

Note sure if this is the final design as the developers themselves are yet to create a dedicated website for the project or divulge any renders. But surely looks much better than the earlier design, which probably we all disliked.

In my opinion, the chosen one looks the best.

The original render looks the best of all; let's see how it finally turns out.

Will have to find out its expected year of completion.

The original render:
